Hasheem Thabeet has a long ways to go before being a useful rotation caliber player.
Thabeet has nothing to offer this season and he won't learn anything sitting on the end of the bench. He needs game experience. Serious playing time (26+mpg, preferably 30-34mpg). You'll have to give him court time and he won't be adding much to the team. Not ideal for a title contender. But it'll be the only way to give him a chance to develop.
My expectation is that after a year's playing time, and some shame, Hasheem Thabeet should be a useful center (outside top 20). He will continue to make gradual improvements from that point on until he becomes a Sam Dalembert level center. A quality starting C.
I would be happy to take that journey with Thabeet. I think he'll pay dividends in the end ... but you are pretty much writing off this season to do it.
