Why would Danny sign Jeff Green thus making him unusable in trades?
I'm not looking for JG to be shipped out of town, but it doesn't seem to make sense to limit our options at this point.
Maybe someone might have offered him a multi-year deal and we'd have lost him for nothing.
well we could match an offer...and if that was really in the cards why did JG sign..
because 9 million for one year with unrestricted free agency next year is better than 5 mill a year for three years if your jeff?
the celtics vastly over payed him for this one year, one assumes to get him for a "test drive" year before committing to multiple years.
Say they were on the fence and some team came offering 3 years at 5 million. Now the celtics HAVE to match 3 years.
This way they overpay him for a year, and if he plays as well as they clearly think he can, they can resign him to a reasonable deal. If he doesn't, they can explore sign and trading him.
In essence this was a deal to overpay him now so they wouldnt have to gamble and have him for multiple years.
