Memphis will match it.

Yeps.

ps - Or not. I just noticed that Woj says they're working on a sign'n'trade. What can Memphis want? Doesn't make much sense.

The Rockets are working to sign Marc Gasol to a 4 year, $55M offer sheet, sources tell Y! Memphis would have 3 days to match, or lose him.

Lowry, Martin, Budinger, Scola, and Marc Gasol... very solid potential starting 5.  Lots of offense.  Not a good, but probably a 10-20 ranked defense if coached well.

Although it's a lot of money, I can't see Memphis letting him go.  That would really turn off their iffy fan base.

I don't see Memphis matching it.

I could see them trying to swing a sign and trade.

Their owner, Michael Heisley, has said they'll match any offer including a max contract deal.

I'll take him at his word. I think he has earned that after giving out all those big contracts over the past 12 months (Gay, Z-Bo, Conley).

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
Hopefully Memphis gets something for him (if they don't match it). Marc Gasol is good, but he isn't max contract good. It just amazes me how much money big guys get in this league without being an absolute sure thing.
