ps - Or not. I just noticed that Woj says they're working on a sign'n'trade. What can Memphis want? Doesn't make much sense.
My guess is that Houston is working on a sign and trade and Memphis aren't on board. The Rockets are doing so because they know Memphis will match the offer sheet.

I'd also guess that they are offering Kevin Martin + assets for Marc Gasol. Either K.Martin + Scola, or Kev Martin and a load of youngsters / picks.

The Rockets are working to sign Marc Gasol to a 4 year, $55M offer sheet, sources tell Y! Memphis would have 3 days to match, or lose him.

@WojYahooNBA

So that is just under $14 million a year.

It's a small max contract because Marc Gasol is doesn't have the years yet for a larger one.

Easy to absorb.

Martin + Scola for Mayo + Gasol works for both teams. Allows the development of Patrick Patterson, gets a wing replacement, and gives Memphis 2 of the best scorers in the NBA in their starting 5.

They'd be better off paying Marc Gasol.

I think the Grizzlies will be very happy with this offer because it gets them out of a fifth year.

They wanted Marc Gasol to sign an offer sheet with another team to get out of that additional year on his contract.

Yeps.

Memphis will get close to the luxury tax threshold after this though. $67 million with 11 guys in the roster.

A Mayo-McRoberts sign and trade can save them some money. Then use the MLE in a wing. Not sure who.

Randolph: 15.2 / 16.5 / 17.8. / 16.5
Gay: 15.0 / 16.5 /17.9 / 19.3
Gasol: 13.7 / 13.7 / 13.7 / 13.7
Conley: 6.6 / 7.3 / 8.0 / 8.7 / 9.4

Pricey core. Can they put enough pieces around these guys in the next 3 years to contend? I doubt it.

Be surprised if Memphis didn't match Rockets offer sheet to Marc Gasol. Grizz have put word out they intend to match pretty much anything

Aha. I'd read in the Twitter feed that Morey bid on Gasol as a favor to Wallace (good friends), but I didn't understand the logic behind that.

The Rockets do not have the cap space to make this offer. They are going to have to clear some contracts to make this a possibility.

There is some talk that they might amnesty Hasheem Thabeet. Anyone interested?

I am a fan. I'd love to sign Thabeet. I still believe he can be a Samuel Dalembert level center in this league. Thabeet wouldn't offer anything to C's this year (too raw) but he could become an asset to the club further down the road.

Im glad the Grizzlies plan to match for Marc, he was a huge part of their impressive playoff run and he is a centerpiece to an intriguing and fun team that is getting the best out of Tony Allen.  In a S&T with Houston, they would be left without a true center which is dangerous given Zach Randolph's lack of height and defense.

And I want the Grizzlies to give the Lakers hell.

bigs are really getting overvalued this offseason. i guess its a sign of how weak that position is in the NBA nowadays.

i imagine that's what morey, thought, too.  when he gives up on a prospect, i think it's safe to say there's not much you can expect from that player.

Memphis can offer the most money in a contract. There is no way Gasol goes to the Rockets...Period.
