And unless there's another trade JaJuan gets to play under KG, Doc and get lobs from Rondo. A rookie, yes, but between him and Bass those are some strong inside finishers we haven't had.

yeah, im confident JJJ will be a nice piece for the future.  a solid role player, maybe even a starter quality guy eventually.

it's gonna take more than that to put us back in the top tier, though.

Yeah that's like being more pumped about the breadsticks than the actual entree.

Eh... it was rough to get our hopes up, but the offseason did still go pretty well.  Getting something for the TE, getting Wilcox for the vet min.  Getting Jeff Green on a non-QO 1-year deal.  And most importantly, getting Bass for Baby.

And we still have the mini-MLE.

a year or two ago, this off-season would have been great.  but just re-tooling the bench isn't enough at this point.  we no longer have the best starting 5 in the league.

It's not always boom or bust.  We didn't make any bad signings. We have flexibility going into the year.  We made some marginal improvements. We have a decent base of trade assets to work with (Green, JO, Bass, our picks) plus some that may increase in value during the year (Bradley, JJJ).

Sure, West would have been a coup, but there may be other coups available in the future.
2016 CelticsBlog Draft: Chicago Bulls

Starters: Rubio, Danny Green, Durant, Markieff Morris, Capela
Bench: Sessions, Shumpert, G. Green, T. Booker, Frye
Deep Bench: CJ Watson, H. Thompson, P. Zipser, Papagiannis, Mejri

Excellent point. Trade deadline is March 15. More than 90 days away.

The Celtics could still put together a very good trade package prior to the deadline and get the major upgrade they are looking for.

Right  now this team is 4th at best in the east. Guess not much more Danny can do. I see second round and out then let the rebuilding begin.

if the nets get dwight howard the celtics could very easily be 5th behind heat, bulls, knicks, nets.

Come on, man. This kind of rational, even-tempered thinking has no business being on an NBA message board.

The season is already over, haven't you heard?

I have Knicks third with Celts battling Magic for fourth.

Not convinced by NYC due to PG play + lack of depth + wrong coach for that squad.

I think the guy is going to surprise a lot of people in a quicker fashion than people expect. And most definitely will eventually prove he deserved to draft a lot higher. My guess is he impresses people with his D and provides a lot of the things Baby did only better, more consistent, with more tools and more upside. And I think all of that can evolve farther than it would with someone like KG teaching him the ropes.

I don't expect it to be an instant, earth-shattering impact, but adding two guys like Bass and JJJ gives the team fresh, athletic help to rest the starters that we couldn't get out of Baby consistently. If Marquis is as healed as they claim, then the starters might get lucky and rest more than they've been able to.

I bet you could look at threads about JR Giddens, Avery Bradley, etc..see carbon copy comments.

What are the chances Boston may go after Kirilenko in a sign and trade? Similar to the West one?

Because Kirilenko is an undersized quick four and those two guys are SFs.

Pretty much the same idea as with David West. Play Garnett at the five and Kirilenko at the four. Even more quickness and defensive ability. Less go-to scoring. More ball-handling and passing.

To "replace" West. I think AK would do well with Rondo and the rest of this team.
