Rumors are circulating that the Pacers will attempt to sign David West if or when the sign-and-trade to the Celtics falls through. The Pacers have the cap space to sign West outright and they would be the likely destination for West if the Celtics can't iron out the last few tricky details.

With news tonight that the Lakers are out of the running and that the Clippers are still unwilling to give up Eric Gordon. It leaves Boston as the only team remaining with a shot for Paul.

Now, we may attempt to acquire both Paul and West in a blockbuster deal.

But now that Green is officially signed on for another year the salaries don't work and the deal for New Orleans is less than what it was a week ago. It would look really bad for them and the NBA for NO to accept a lesser deal, and to have it pass through.

But maybe there is a solution. Lets say the Celtics talk to Indiana again about a three-way deal. If Indiana is willing to part with more of it's prospects and/or draft picks to send to New Orleans, we will back out of the David West sweepstakes and let the all-star power forward sign with the team.

This would give Indiana a squad comprised of all-stars Rajon Rondo, Danny Granger and David West. The improved package for New Orleans (which would receive some combination of Collison, Rush, George, Hibbert, Bradley, JJJ, Moore and Picks from Boston *Obviously not all of them*) can say, we got a good deal out of all of this.

This is really important though! Indiana, would only have a reason to do this if the Celtics can PROVE to them that they have a deal in place to bring David West to Boston. If Ainge can't do that, they may just press their luck, and hope the deal falls through so they can get West without a trade. But if they think the only way they can get West is through this 3-way deal, their incentive to make it work doubles.

The Celtics get their guy in Chris Paul and also keep Jeff Green and hold on to Jermaine O'neal. (They would need to give up some young players to balance the contracts.) The Hornets get an imrpoved deal from what they had a week ago. The Pacers get two all-stars in the deal to pair with Granger. The deal improves for everyone involved.

Let me know what you think.

I think at the end of the day I agree with you.

Edit: I'm actually quite torn. So I shouldn't say that. Getting Paul for Rondo, while keeping Green would be an absolute steal for us.

Agreed. At least David West actually wants to be here. That should mean something.

I have not heard the Hornets express a lot of interest in the Pacer's assets.

Well, that's what the deal would come down to. I'm sure they have interest in Collison. He's been there before and filled in for Paul well. But I believe the three-way trade before was Collison, Rush, Green and 2 Firsts. (I THINK i saw that as the reported deal.) Now, they turned that down a week ago.

Since then they've lost one trade partner in Los Angeles, and the rest of the league is low balling them.

If they can get a package like.. Collison, Rush, George, Bradley, Johnson and Two Firsts. Maybe you make that deal if it's your last resort.

I think it might hinge more on the Celtic's interest, and on the Pacers interest. This gives new orleans a chance to save face.

I'm not in love with the deal though as a celtic fan.

I'm honestly tired of the CP3 trade rumors/ideas, at first I thought we should try to get him but now that Danny has showed that he could build a really good cast around our Big Four, I think we're better off getting David West, adding a center or a guard (or both) and going to war with this roster.

I know that I already love our roster and I'm not sure it would feel the same with CP3 in place of Rondo.

Chris Paul is going to the Lakers one way or another.  If he doesn't want to be a Celtic then to heck with him.

  Time to move on.

No he's not, they just traded Odom to Dallas for a TPE and a draft pick. They are officially out of the running for CP3 and will turn to trying to acquire Dwight Howard. They only have Pau and Bynum as trade assets now and any trade they can make for dwight will include both pau and Bynum because they will also have to take back Hedo's contract too.

As far as a 3 team deal with indy and New Orleans, here's a decent one I think

Bos sends: Rondo, Green, 2 1st's, jujuan johnson
Bos gets : Paul and Hansborough

Indy sends: Collison, Hansborough, Granger , filler
Indy get: Rondo, David West

NO  sends: West, Paul
NO gets  : Collison, Granger, Green,johnson and 2 1st's

Ya I just saw that LA has back out of the Paul sweepstakes at least for now but it still makes no sense to trade your best asset(Rondo) for a one year rental of a guy who doesn't want to be a Celtic.  He doesn't want to be here so if he comes he is likely to have a terrible attitude and be out for himself rather then the team.  Time to move on either way.

sorry - I don't want to do that deal - rondo and west plus green and JJJ are better than a one year rental on paul.  Get the david West deal done!

I agree with the "get the david west deal done" idea.  After that, I'm open to talk about cp, but only once we have that locked up.

yeah, too late on chris paul.. i have already visualized him too many times in purple and gold, made up anti-chris paul chants and nicknames (can't post them here), and frothed hate in his direction.  i can't accept him as a celtic now.   ;D

imagine if we mortgaged our future on chris paul, we don't win a championship and then he signs with the lakers in free agency.  i would personally buy a raft and row danny to the lord of the flies island.

I want West *and* Paul.

Roy that trade would be tremendous. I'm pretty luke warm on my proposal, and I think it makes sense to have David West in Boston to help Paul warm up to the place. I just don't think that is enough to get Paul, and I think all the analysts view that deal as inferior to the package coming from LA and HOU. But we'll see, you never know.
