According to A. Sherrod Blakely.

Apparently the third team wants no part of JO.

JO is just a salary to make this work.  He's not the bait.  We'll have to send a sweetener to get this done.

A. Sherrod Blakely @PosImpos I think the #Celtics are prepared to go with a lineup that does not include a true, back-to-the-basket center.

So switch Jermaine O'Neal for Brandon Bass and get 'er done.

We can't trade Bass (in combination with other players) for 30 days, I believe.
Ah right, so it's Jermaine or nada. That limits things.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
SO how bout we waive Jermaine?

I think using him as our waive is annoying, but we give the big 3 a real shot at a title and West for 2-3 years until they renegotiate.

Can't think of anyone else we'll waive in the next 6 years (unless West himself shot his knee early on with us?)
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

We need JO's salary to bring back West in trade.  If we waive him, it doesn't help us in any way regarding what we can offer free agents.

1st point. No

2nd point. I agree once waived his salary still counts against the cap so your right, we wouldnt be able to go after other Free Agents because his salary will still be on the books

Must involve one of the 3
Avery Bradley
Jajuan Johnson
Clippers pick/ or our pick.

Just can't see any rational for New Orleans to do it.

3rd team??  Which team would be interested in JO and his salary for this year...?

Was talk of a team out west..  No ideas on who.

I think it is a good move I just really want to see how Johnson is.  Seems to have the biggest upside.. Awesome combine results huge vert and stronger than his thing frame would indicate...  also a great jumper..  Doc said he reminds him of Horace Grant..

This whole this is making me nuts.  Can't get away from the computer....

What do you mean, "1st point No"?  There's no other way to bring West here, unless we're trading Rondo, Allen, etc.  We need JO's salary to complete this trade.

Regarding the second point, if we used amnesty on JO, his salary would actually be cleared from our cap and luxury tax.  Other than saving Wyc $6 million, though, it wouldn't do us any good.

The only team that would make sense to me would be Dallas, who targeted JO in free agency last year.  However, they're targeting Dalembert, and if they get him, I would think they'd lose any interest in JO.

I think the best chance of convincing a team to take Jermaine O'Neal is a team under the cap who are looking to add salary to make the minimum salary cap.

Of course, in return, that team will want an asset of some kind. Likely a late first round pick or something of equivalent value (A.Bradley or J.Johnson).

So one comparable asset to New Orleans and one asset to this third team.

Question:  Can anybody point to a story that Sherrod has broken?  Or even one where, on even minor points, he seemed to be out in front of the field?

It just seems like in at least 90% of his tweets or reports that he presents as insider information, he's just making educated guesses, regurgitating stuff fed to him by the team, and/or making stuff up completely.

I just don't find him to be reliable.

I agree.  His reporting is much closer to that of a blogger than someone with legit inside information.  Almost everything he reports is either common knowledge, or just his opinion.

I'd throw in Avery Bradley...  Seems like the least needed player on this roster with Rondo (who isn't going anywhere) and Dooling.  Would hate to lose him as there's much about him we don't know, but would much rather have West on this team.

I trust Woj the most. I think Sherrod was just speculating on the lack of talk surrounding the deal today. Agree with everyone else; transactions around the league are being held up by the CP3 drama.
