Correct me if I'm wrong but these are the moves Danny made so far:

Signed Marquis Daniels, Chris Wilcox, Greg Stiemsma and Gilbert Brown.
Got Brandon Bass for Glen Davis and Von Wafer
Got Keyon Dooling with a pick
Getting David West with Jermaine O'Neal (and Pavlovic apparently)
Resigning Jeff Green.

Did we upgrade or downgrade at each position? In my opinion:

Center:
J.O'Neal (Shaq, Krstic) -> Chris Wilcox, Greg Stiemsma
A slight downgrade. Shaq may be gigantic but Chris Wilcox not shabby because he can run and jump. We got a tough guy in Brandon Bass to make up for the lack of Shaq.

Gren Stiesma can straight up play defense so there's a slim chance he might contribute. Plus its only day one of the FA.

Power Forward:
KG, Glen Davis, Troy Murphy -> KG, Jajuan Johnson, Brandon Bass, David West
Clear upgrade. Jajuan will probably surprise.

The wings:
Paul Pierce, JG, Sasha Pavlovic -> Paul Pierce, JG, Gilbert Brown
Ray Allen, Von Wafer -> Ray Allen, E'Twaun Moore, Marquis Daniels
JG will play better with a camp under his belt. We've got Gilbert Brown as our insurance for our insurance Marquis Daniels, who is another athletic freak. I say an upgrade or even a major one depending on how JG and Gilbert Brown pans out.

Point:
Rondo, Delonte, Bradley -> Rondo, Dooling, Bradley, (Delonte?)
Delonte can score but Dooling is injured less. A slight improvement? We're might get D-West back from the looks of it and Bradley is one year + 1 short training camp in.

Do you see us keeping Brandon Bass?

Is there any point in investing in the 2012 Free Agency now? Dwight is going to the Nets. Chris Paul is going to...somewhere.

Im not too sure how much of these moves so far are for onward trades. Danny is still trying stuff.

two things I would love to see.

1. unrealistic but some kind of three way with a team that wants KG's huge expiring, and Rondo, in order to give up valuable assets to the Magic in exchange for giving us Howard.Yes...I did say unrealistic.

2. More realistic, getting Al jefferson.

So far I would give him a B+...if he can get David west and a good piece for the mmle its definitely an A+...it is particularly interesting that green wasn't allowed to train today despite apparently not being part of the west deal. Perhaps there is another trade coming with Jeff involved?

Crazy times...just crazy.

how much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck was chris bosh?

I have been very impressed with what Danny has done this offseason. I'd give him somewhere in the B+/A- range.

Also, remember that sometimes the smartest move is not making a move. For example, anyone still upset that the Celtics passed on drafting Brandon Roy?
Celtics fan for life.

We still have the mini mle and I believe Danny picked up another trade exception with the bass trade.  Danny is not done yet.

Based on his current moves...  A solid B-grade based on the potential to help Boston's bench.  However, the logjam at power forward on this team suggest that this is a prelude to another deal that isn't yet consummated.  Or, you hope that's the case.  If not, I'm still scratching my head somewhat this morning trying to make sense of this so far.

Acquisitions

Keyon Dooling
Brandon Bass
Davis West (Has the trade been nixed?)

Signings

Marquis Daniels
Chris Wilcox
Jeff Green
E'Twaun Moore
JaJuan Johnson (Likely, will be signed soon)

Training camp invitees

Gilbert Brown
Michael Sweetney
Greg Stiemsma
Jamal Sampson

If possible, I suggest Ainge target Jason Richardson if Richard Hamilton indeed signs with Chicago.  But, I've to believe that Jamal Crawford's their first choice.  Reportedly, Luc Mbah a Moute is on Boston's radar.

if the west trade happens, he gets an A. basically improves the team via the bass/davis trade, adds wilcox for nothing, gets a decent backup in dooling, and then adds west, a former all-star, as a 6th man. plus..we still have green. kind of awesome. i don't want cp3 at this point, though with west, we can afford to trade green and rondo. but...being that west is coming off an ACL tear, and KG, pierce, and ray aren't spring chickens, i'd rather have some depth. green and west can take over the 3/4 next year when (presumably) KG and Ray retire or take cheap deals to be bench players, and Pierce maybe moves back to the 2.

I like what he's pulling off with almost no money....except not bringing back Delonte

Folks, I wouldn't give Ainge a grade in the A-range without landing an elite player like CP3 or Howard.  We collectively are once again getting too enamored with these moves without looking at the bigger picture which is, despite the lockout, heading  in the direction of needing 3 superstars in their prime in order to compete for a Title.  Look at Miami, NYK, Chicago.  Now look at Ainge's moves:  Bass, nice player, better than Davis but not an all-star.  West, an all-star once but not an elite player.  Dooling journeyman.

I give Ainge a B so far.

Can someone provide links to the overall details of the Big Baby(S&T)-TE(??)/Brandon Bass-Von Wafer(S&T??) trade, the Keyon Dooling-2nd rounder/TE-Alberto Mirrales(sp??) trade, the David West(S&T)/Jermaine O'Neal and whatever trade and Jeff Green's contract details.

It just seems so much is up in the air and I would love to know all the details, if they are all out.

Von Wafer, Glen Davis for Brandon Bass:
http://espn.go.com/boston/nba/story/_/id/7336124/agent-boston-celtics-deal-glen-davis-orlando-magic-brandon-bass
"The trade is pending physicals, the agent Tony Dutt said."
http://www.orlandopinstripedpost.com/2011/12/10/2625355/nba-rumors-magic-von-wafer-celtics-trade
Technically its Glen Davis for Bass but the Magic are using their trade exception from getting rid of Rashard Lewis on Wafer.

Keyon Dooling:
http://www.insidehoops.com/blog/?p=8750
Keyon Dooling and a second round pick for Albert Miralles.

Jeff Green:
http://www.rantsports.com/boston-celtics/2011/12/09/bosotn-celtics-jeff-green-inks-one-year-deal-to-stay-in-boston/
http://www.sbnation.com/2011-nba-free-agency/2011/12/9/2625006/jeff-green-boston-celtics-contract

The JO for David West deal is not inked.

1. don't like resigning Daniels. Think his career is over and he will be hurt ASAP

2. If he can get west..that would be a big upgrade

3. would still like to see then add Rip and Aaron Gray

Id like the celts to sign another center and a shooting guard...maybe Rip hamilton or jamal Crawford...we need more 3 point shooting

if danny gets david west, I would say hes done a great job...and wed still have the mini-MLE to target more guys!

My sentiments exactly except for the grade which I would say is a C.  Watching the Lakers nearly getting Paul and Howard and the Knicks getting Chandler while we get a bunch of role players?  C'mon C's fans quit drinking the Kool-Aid.
