I am looking at the free agent list and wondering if LA is trying to pull off a sign and trade with their new trade exception ($8.9mil).

It couldn't be Nene. New Jersey are offering him twice as much. No point in Dalembert with Bynum already there and Dwight Howard their top trade target. Kirilenko? Nah, don't see that.

Jamal Crawford? Could they possibly think that Crawford's dribble penetration and shot-creation is more valuable than Lamar Odom's all-round play? Could they?

No, they are getting rid of Odom b/c of the CP3 debacle! Dude said, if they don't want me here I don't want to be here (not a quote but close enough)!
It takes me 3hrs to get to Miami and 1hr to get to Orlando... but I *SPIT* on their NBA teams! "Bless God and bless the (Celts)"-Lady GaGa (she said gays but she really meant Celts)

let's not get ahead of ourselves.  We don't know if the Lakers have a trade exception.  The Odom trade isn't official yet, and I think there is a great chance it will just be looped in as a simultaneous trade with a Howard trade, so they can take bake turkey without sending anyone other than Bynum and picks to the Magic.

Knicks are tying to acquire him thought S&T. JC has even expressed willingness to take a pay cut to play in NYC.

Other trade exception possibilities
  • Anderson Varejao - downgrade from Odom
  • Andre Miller - old, bad fit
  • Paul Millsap - nah, Utah would want talent back
I am not seeing any enticing other options out there. A rookie scale player? Why would anyone give up a talented player on a rookie scale contract for a trade exception?

I am confused.

No, that doesn't make sense.

Otis Smith can get that offer from LA whenever he wants it. A month from now, two months, three months. Heck, next summer in a sign and trade.

The only reason to make a trade right now for Dwight is if someone offers them a much better trade package than what they can get later on ... or, if they want to get rid of Dwight as soon as possible but everything they are doing and saying contradicts that.

The GM loves former GS players?

To be honest, I'm sick of this ****. Orlando wants no less than Bynum/Gasol, and to be honest, I don't think he's worth it - At this point, I'd rather just roll the dice on Bynum.

F the Lakers front office - I wish we would have just started the season with our original roster.

Lakers don't give away Odom unless they are fully certain they are getting Dwight.

Dwight Howard belongs on the Lakers.  He's a punk

CBSSports.com confirmed reports that Howard requested to be traded to the New Jersey Nets, but two people with direct knowledge of Howard's plans said Saturday that the All-Star center has long wanted to play in Los Angeles. Howard's affinity for the city is so strong that sources said the Lakers' co-tenants in Staples Center, the Clippers, should not be ruled out as a trade partner for Orlando.

The entire league will be trying to acquire Howard in the coming days now that his trade request is public and the Magic have acknowledged giving his agent, Dan Fegan, permission to discuss trade possibilities with the Lakers, Nets and Mavericks. But the Lakers are the only team capable of offering an All-Star 7-footer, Pau Gasol, and a potential All-Star 7-footer, Andrew Bynum -- while also being willing and able to take Hedo Turkoglu and his poisonous contract.

While some executives and agents were confused as to why the Lakers didn’t seriously engage the Magic in trade discussions that would’ve sent Bynum and Gasol to Orlando for Howard and Turkoglu in the first place, sources said the answer was simple: the Lakers want to try to position themselves to land both Paul and Howard.

“They got greedy,” one person briefed on the situation said.

Despite sources confirming that Howard had requested to be traded to the Nets – a team that has been on his list since at least February – two people with knowledge of his plans said he views L.A. as a better fit for his off-court aspirations. The conflicting signals from Howard are similar to what Magic executives have experienced over the past year as the All-NBA center has frequently changed his mind about whether he wants to stay in Orlando or not.

Dwight Howard's trade demand from the Orlando Magic is due in part to the organization not granting his requests for specific trades and signings over the last several years, the All-Star center said Sunday night.

Quote
"I'm pretty sure if you go down the line of teams, every GM has a pretty good relationship with not just the best player but all the players," Howard said. "If you don't have a good relationship with the people you work with, how are you going to get better?

Quote
Howard said he pushed for other moves that were not made.

"The stuff that I have asked for, the stuff I felt our team needed to get better, none of it has happened," Howard said. "That's not me being cocky but I want to be involved with the organization. I've been here for a long time, I don't want to sit around."

In an interview with the Orlando Sentinel Sunday night, Smith said he had consulted Howard on trades and other moves.

"When it's your best player, you really do consult your best player on everything? You do," Smith said. "So you consult your best player on free agency. You consult your best players on trades. And that's not uncommon. And I have done that."

Howard declined to be specific about what players he wanted the Magic to acquire but said they weren't all stars or high-salaried players.

"These weren't special guys, just guys I felt would be great for our team," Howard said. "It wasn't guys that would take us over the cap or anything like that. It was just guys that I felt would help us on the inside and the outside."

Smith acknowledged that Howard had come to him with suggestions over the years but he didn't make moves for various reasons.

"We looked at some; some we have, some we don't," Smith said. "So I'm not necessarily saying that he isn't accurate. I think that there was a list. Some of them are duplicate talent, which is something you can't do all the time. Some, quite frankly, are on your roster."
