I'm told there's no way Lakers are trading Bynum and Gasol for Dwight Howard.

@KevinDing

good.  hopefully that means new jersey has a chance (since they'd only be competing against an offer of bynum instead of bynum + gasol).  the lakers also don't have odom to offer, so outside of bynum and gasol they really have no tradeable assets.

After meeting with team, Dwight Howard seemed to re-open door to staying with Magic if there are "changes." Story coming.

One of "changes" Dwight Howard wants is signing of Chauncey. If DH12 stays, sources say he'll urge Billups to spurn Heat and "anchor" Magic

Quote
Obviously Chauncey Billups must first clear waivers later today at 6 PM ET. Then Dwight will lobby him to choose Central FLA over South

The "changes" Dwight is referring to were mentioned here.

I wonder how Jameer is going to take that.

@WindhorstESPN

Sounds like they told him in the meeting that his public statements about wanting to be traded were killing their ability to actually trade him.  So, he was nice enough to put a little doubt in teams minds, so they up the offers a bit.

Probably better than signing of Arenas.

So he'll stay if they sign a 35 year old point guard? Don't get me wrong, Billups is a [dang] good player, even at his age, but that really doesn't solve a lot of there problems...Just one, the point guard spot for this year and maybe next. But who knows, maybe if he stays, CP3 will go there?

Talks between the Orlando Magic and New Jersey Nets for a Dwight Howard blockbuster trade have gathered momentum over the past several days, and the framework of a possible four-team deal has taken shape, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

Front office sources say Nets general manager Billy King has aggressively pursued the necessary players and picks to try and satisfy Orlando’s demands for Howard, one of the league’s most dominating and popular players.

The biggest hurdle for the Nets to acquire Howard will still ultimately be the Magic’s willingness to give up their future with him and concede that re-signing him is a lost cause. Orlando could also decide to keep Howard until the trade deadline in March and re-evaluate the market for him. There’s still a belief within the Magic a successful season could help them keep Howard for the long-term.

Quote
New Jersey and Orlando are working toward a core deal that would send center Brook Lopez and another significant player obtained elsewhere to the Magic for Howard and Hedo Turkoglu, sources said.

Quote
Howard has been sold on the idea of pairing with Deron Williams in a new Brooklyn arena beginning in 2012-13, and informed Magic officials he wants a trade to New Jersey. Howard hasn’t rescinded his trade request to the Nets, but as one source close to him says: “He runs hot and cold. …He just doesn’t always know what he wants.”

Quote
The Nets are waiting on the Howard deal before trying to sign free agents. If they miss out on Howard, they’ll likely try to re-sign free-agent forward Kris Humphries to a one-year contract worth $8 million-$9 million, sources said. The Nets will likely try to limit any players they add in free agency to one-year deals if they don’t acquire Howard to preserve salary-cap space for Howard’s expected free agency this summer.

Sources told ESPN.com that the most active proposal discussed by the teams would send Portland Trail Blazers swingman Gerald Wallace to the Magic along with Nets center Brook Lopez as two of the main pieces Orlando would receive in exchange for Howard.

As part of such a trade, which could be expanded to include a fourth team, sources say Orlando would also shed the long-term contracts of Hedo Turkoglu and Chris Duhon -- both absorbed by New Jersey -- while also potentially receiving future draft considerations.

Other players would have to be added to the deal to make the salary-cap math work, but sources said Portland would receive multiple first-round picks as part of the exchange for surrendering Wallace and facilitating the trade

Marc Stein

Very strange to see Portland giving up Gerald Wallace for a couple of draft picks. Isn't that exactly the deal they made 9 months ago to acquire him? Isn't Paul Allen in a win-now mode and totally uninterested in the idea of rebuilding? Isn't that why he fired GM Cho?

Very strange
