No I don't while I may not understand why some teams do the trades they do it shouldn't have been vetoed.
The NBA is in a tough situation. This CBA won't be extended after 6 years (or is it 5?).
There are a lot of problems now with the league.
- You now have all the top players wanting to play with each other and essentially in only a few select markets
- The first point then leads all these superstars holding their small market teams hostage to trade them to the city of their choosing
- The small markets teams are then forced because they're too afraid to let the superstar walk. So they make whatever trade they can to the team the superstar wants
- The league has just vetoed a trade and is the first time i can remember, and on top of that involving a top tier PG and one of the leagues biggest market and most successful teams.
What I personally hope comes from this veto situation:
The veto pretty much doesn't allow any team to be able to trade for Chris Paul without the league looking completely ridiculous. So I hope this prevents any trade for him happening, allowing CP3's contract to run out and him becoming a UFA. This will then not allow him to go to his desired big market team for the price he wants. Also those teams are over the cap anyways and won't be able to offer a contract. Unless CP3 is willing to take a HUGE pay cut.
Thus I hope these people have the cajones to do the following:
Hornets- let CP3 walk to show him he is not in control of their franchise.
Small Market team - Trade for CP3 knowing he probably won't resign.
CP3 - if allowed to walk whether from Hornets or the team he was traded to, to then accept a smaller contract to play with a team he deems to have the biggest chance to be successful.
Unfortunately non of those 3 things will happen, because the NBA is full of a bunch of entitled superstars and whipped GMs.
