Chris Paul getting mad at the NBA is like Allen IVerson being mad at Wyc Groesbeck for not signing him.

NBA owns the Hornets.  They didn't like the garbage trade their GM presented to them.  End of story.

Several GM's were lauding the haul of players and the draft pick that Demps was able to get back for Chris Paul in the deal. Now what?

Some people seem to think that Odom, Martin, Scola, Dragic, and a 1st rounder for Chris Paul was a pretty good return.
Its an solid group of players, the problem is the longer term money they're taking on without any plan to rebuild.

Well, I was a fan that was panning for him to come to Boston - even on the one-yr rental.

Thank God it didn't happen. He is immensely talented, but he seems like a spoiled child here.

Rondo may have his quirks, but I'm glad we still have him.

Sorry, Rondo.

Very well said. My thoughts exactly. TP.

I'd say that is a darn good return for a player about to bolt a team. I'd also say that Danny Ainge must have some pretty compromising pics of David Stern that he just notified the commissioner about...

I'd be furious in his spot too, you're told you are to be traded its a done deal and then the league kills the deal. That's bound to anger a player, any player.

I wouldn't be furious. At all.

I'd go to sleep knowing that I was still a multi-millionaire getting paid to work/play the game I love.

If KG and Ray could use their best years trying to make Minny/SEA better - then why can't CP3 stick around in NOH for a bit.

Just my take.

Yeah, the veto had nothing to do with the return New Orleans got and everything to do with an NBA-owned team setting up a potential dynasty for a team most of them think is heavily favored by the league.

The owners don't care if it's fair or lopsided, they care that the Lakers are getting Chris Paul with breathing room to shoot for Howard too.

EDIT: Also what Faf said - long-term commitments to non-star players, could damage the value of the team.

Yup, this is more a reaction to the possibility that Howard could force a trade to the Lakers too.

I guess the Lakers made an offer that Stern could refuse...

Irrelevant.  "Some people" seem to think Iverson would be a good Celtic.  If Wyc Groesbeck doesn't want to sign Iverson, Iverson can't then "sue" Wyc Groesbeck.

The NBA owns the Hornets.  Dell Demps accepted a trade, he then presented that trade to his ownership (the NBA) and his ownership declined for obvious reasons (they don't want to add 73+ million on the books when they are trying to sell the team).  The media jumped the gun on this and now is misreporting it.

NBA's number one priority is to sell the Hornets.  They can sell the Hornets in one of two scenarios.  One they have a franchise player.  Two, they have young talent on cheap rookie contracts.  Why would any one in their right mind buy the Hornets, if they have to shell out 35 Million for Odom, Scola and Martin just to barely make the playoffs in a small market?

Its not just the trade not happening, but the way it happened, how the league blocked it after his boss said it was going to happen.

So if you're paid millions you'd be okay with whatever your work conditions are, wherever you have to work? I don't believe that's true, but whatever floats your boat.

Faf - look I'm admittedly old school. I'm just getting tired of "The Decisions" and now "CP3-Gate."

Like I stated earlier - the difference with KG-Ray was that, to me - they put in the time with Minny/SEA. They didn't get to Boston until they were 31/32 respectively, and on the down-turn in their careers.

CP3 is 25, Lebron was 26? So what if their teams declined?

Put in your time.

Things are just too different now. It's not good.

Admittedly, I was panning for this guy, but with the details coming out now I was wrong.

The funny thing here is that he MAY still get traded to Boston - if so, I will be more hesitant to cheer for the guy.

That's the problem is that from what I gather the NBA told Demps he had the freedom to make such a trade, then pulled the rug out from under him at the last minute after pressure was applied to Stern.

The sequencing is very important.

Part of me sort of likes that the league is cracking down on situations where a player tries to direct where he ends up.

CP3 is upset that he won't go to the Lakers.

Billups is upset that the Knicks will amnesty him (and he'll end up in a smaller market).

In my mind, tough luck to both of them. These are the new rules of the game.  Don't like 'em? Bargain harder next time the CBA comes up for negotiation. Or go play in China. But take your whining elsewhere.

Celtics fan for life.

Ahh but he chose to resign their for millions as he's not on a rookie contract.

The only reason the League was able to stop this is because they own the Hornets though, right? If and when they get new ownership they won't be allowed to intervene or would they?

So I guess it's not "end of story." There's more to it than a "garbage" offer (a characterization several rival GMs didn't agree with).
