I thought this thread would be more like the "what strange foods have you eaten thread".

I played something called "pickle ball", which is essentially tennis played with a wiffle ball and ping pong paddles.  I dominated at that sport, which is crazy, because I suck at both tennis and ping pong.  Put me on a pickle ball court, though, and I turn into Roger Federer.

Wouldn't the ball just curve and move all over the place - or dive directly into the ground?

Sounds interesting and fun though!

You definitely don't get much distance on it; the sport is played on a badminton court, with the nets lowered.  You can get some wicked backspin on the ball; if you hit it right, you can get the ball to bounce backward once it clears the net.  It's rare, but pretty awesome.  But yeah, the ball is flying around in all kinds of crazy directions.

It is a whacky game, for sure, but definitely fun.

Frisbee Golf....
Barrels around a park as the "holes".  Actually the pars the people who built the course posted were pretty close.

It'd have gone a lot better under the influence of something...lol

I think Bocce ball is a great game that not a lot of people play.

Simple, fun, and cheap, and as long as you have somebody to play with it can be an awesome game that anybody can play.

Basically it's just this:

First you throw a golf ball sized ball.

Then you and your opponent take turns throwing 4 softball sized balls each trying to get the closest to the golf ball sized ball.

And you can play this anywhere, though if you play on a legit court (which is about the size of a horseshoe pit) there's a couple of extra rules to consider.

After 18 months with their Bigs, the Littles were: 46% less likely to use illegal drugs, 27% less likely to use alcohol, 52% less likely to skip school, 37% less likely to skip a class

Curling.  Surprisingly compelling.  Friendly, social sport with lots of ritualized drinking.

The only place I've ever seen it is in the Olympics.  I see the appeal, though.

What makes someone a better or worse curler?  How do they communicate?

Lawn darts, before they banned it for being ridiculously unsafe.  No casualties on our end, though.

Duck pin Bowling...I thought candlepin was pretty limited as far as areas found (New England and eastern Canada) duckpin seems to be a R.I. sport.
