The Celtics had discussions with the Indiana Pacers about the framework of a deal that could’ve sent Paul to the Celtics, Rondo to Indiana and a package, including former Hornet Darren Collison, Tyler Hansbrough, Brandon Rush and draft picks, to New Orleans, sources said.

New Orleans would have keener interest in small forwards Danny Granger or Paul George, but Pacers president Larry Bird has declared those players “untouchable” in trade talks, sources said.

So I'm guessing this wont get it done for New Orleans ?

He also said Danny has as many as 8 different trades in place to try to get more Pieces to move for Paul

Quote
The Celtics have relentlessly pursued Paul and have presented the Hornets with as many as eight different scenarios that would bring them some combination of Rondo, Jeff Green, two future No. 1 picks and additional talent from third teams, sources said.

I hope this gets done by tomorrow because I can't deal with all these [dang] rumors  :-X

Makes you wonder if some of these other three team trades is to apply pressure to the Pacers to up their offer as well as find another path to Paul.

this needs to stop. Renting Paul for 6 months is just dumb. I wish danny would have put this much time into getting a real bench because in the end that will doom the celtics this season

Do you think Paul will give up at least $25 million to leave Boston? Especially if they have a good season? Especially if Ainge is able to sign some good players with the cap space and re-sign Allen+Garnett to small deals?

People keep saying CP3 wouldn't leave Boston because of the money. Clearly that's not true at all, if it was then NO wouldn't be shopping him, they'd just sign him to an extension.

Exactly. I understand that Boston would be able to offer him the most $ but that didn't work with james in cleveland either...

But Boston can offer something neither Cleveland nor New Orleans could offer.

A well run team that will have the option of cap space next year to bring in another player to play with Paul.

why would he sign an extension with New Oreleans when they dont have the players to contend for a title or the cap room to add talent around cp3 in the future? The C's have both of those things to offer CP3 , along with being the greatest franchise in NBA history and having a players coach like Doc in place. Plus he could sign the very max with us if traded here. I know reports have been he won't sign here, but he won't sign anywhere until next off-season , it makes no sense for him to .

I wouldn't move Rondo or Paul for that package.  Collison doesn't have the instincts to be an elite point guard, in my mind; he's simply a vastly inferior player to either Paul or Rondo.  Brandon Rush is borderline garbage, and Tyler Hansborough, while a nice piece, isn't really starting caliber, let alone an impact player.

Add George to that package, and it's at least interesting.  As it currently stands, though, it shouldn't be acceptable to the Hornets.

Collison was a beast when he was in NO before in place of CP, and Hansbrough could be a borderline 20/10 guy with consistent starter minutes.  Depending on what picks were included, I think thats a deal that could look very smart in the future.

Hansbrough is a good effort guy.  A PF most teams would like off their bench.

Collison is a solid starting PG that can hang big stats playing on a bad team.

Both are nice pieces, but not centerpiece of a trade that makes Rondo or Paul move.

Couldn't NO just amnesty Okafor and have the cap room to sign whoever they wanted? That would basically put them eve with the Celts money-wise.

One thing to consider, though. A team with CP3 and PP and Dwight Howard would compete for a title, and CP3 and DH would be great cornerstones to build around. But we keep hearing that CP3 doesn't want to come to Boston to be part of a rebuild and thinks they have a very short window. The obvious conclusion is that CP3 thinks it's a lot less likely that Howard would join him in Boston than most of the posters here do.

Perhaps, but what if you add Green and/or Davis to the package going to NO?

If I'm New Orleans, I would pass, personally.  We're talk about something along the line of a quarter and three dimes for a dollar.

is paul better than rondo? yes...but giving up rondo AND green for a rental seems to really hurt the future. Boston would have zero pieces to build around next season if paul left
