Two years ago they spent half the summer trying to trade Ray and Rondo, we went to the finals then based in no small part on Rondo's play.

this is true, but i don't remember the trade rumors being this serious or specific.

the fact that ainge is trying to trade rondo basically straight up for a different point guard, one rondo doesn't particularly like (if past matchups are any indication), and one who would likely be a one year rental for the celtics, has to needle Rondo a lot more than the "rondo for michael conley and rudy gay" rumors we heard about briefly and well after the talks had already died.

Like Ray and Rondo for Amare?

i follow these trade rumors as ravenously as anyone, and i don't recall the ray and rondo for amare rumors having the kind of legs that these rumors do.

there can be no doubt at this point that danny ainge isn't just making some calls, exploring options, or gauging rondo's value (as it seems he was last summer prior to signing rondo to an extension).

he's pulling out all the stops to find any way possible to get chris paul in boston outside of trading one of the big 3.  this situation is pretty obviously different.

I doubt his trade offers are anyone but the big three, but they'd be mainly salary filler in a deal like this. Would he say "I'm not trading for CP3 if I have to include Ray in the deal"? Doubtful. This is probably somewhat more serious than the Amare rumors, but that's probably because the Hornets are more motivated to sell than the Suns were. Would a player (if he's going to be upset over trade rumors) be more concerned about "I offered to trade you to team A but they rejected the proposal" than "I offered to trade you to team B and the discussions were more prolonged"?

While I'd still be pleasantly surprised if we can land Paul for Rondo, clearly the message that comes away from these trade talks is that at least one GM doesn't hold Rondo in the same high esteem many of you do.

I could see Rondo settling in okay at Indiana.

He'd be close to Kentucky and closer to Perk.  Their president of basketball operations would have an appreciation for his mind and competitiveness and tolerance for his personality and quirks.

Rondo......hasn't been Rondo but maybe 6 games since they traded away "you know who" .  I don't think he is super happy in Boston since "that deal" last year.

The overall build of the team is under reconstruction and he seems to be less of an asset as this change of the guard begins to take place.

Maybe he'll be gone and it won't be an issue.  ::)

OK with me. Rondo has been needing a chip on his shoulder for some time to finally round out his game and focus his energies.

He didn't get it while wearing green with management coddling him so much. An occasional kick in the rump can do wonders.

Good luck to you fella.

Don't forget how he'll be burning hair dolls in effigy pretending they're Danny Ainge, angry because Danny ruined his innocence.

Hopefully if we don't get Paul he plays with the same chip on his shoulder for us.

Does anyone wonder (and I'm just throwing this out) if Rondo is still sulking over Perk not being with Boston?

If these rumors of Rondo are true, that Danny is indeed shopping him heavily, it just seems to me that there has to be something behind this...

Rondo was not "consulted" ahead of time and showed his displeasure on the court.

Can't have that.

The final straw.

I for one almost want him to be traded just so people can see that he'll still be a great player without all the talent around him.

Prediction:  Rondo will be fined by the league for not wearing a suit to games.

He'll be wearing one of those "I hate Danny Ainge" t-shirts.

How will Rondo react to all the rumors?

Let’s pretend the Celtics don’t trade Rondo. At this point, it seems like the likely outcome. Ainge will try to explain the rumors by telling Rondo something to the effect of, “But at least we tried trading you for Chris Paul and only Chris Paul, not anyone lesser.”

But here’s the thing: Rondo considers himself the league’s best point guard and has for years. Trying to trade him for a player Ainge considers better isn’t just likely to hurt Rondo’s feelings. It also attacks Rondo’s supreme self-confidence, one of the pillars on which Rondo has built his career. That confidence won’t go away anytime soon. But his trust and appreciation for Ainge (and perhaps Doc Rivers) sure might. Rondo can be an emotionally fickle guy. These rumors, even if that’s all they amount to, won’t help.

The difference between the current Rondo trade rumors and the 2009 Rondo trade rumors is this: Then, the Celtics were shopping Rondo because he misbehaved too often. Now, they’re shopping him because they think they can acquire a better player. Should Paul be traded elsewhere, the effect of these trade rumors on Rondo might be far greater (and worse) than they were two years ago.

Supreme self-confidence????? You've got to be kidding me.

Any player who shoots FTs at a 50% clip and hesitates to step into wide open 12 to 15 footers hasn't built his career on supreme self-confidence. He's built his career on sheer fantasy.

Not even close.

Rondo misbehaved too often?

What?
