Loyalty can also lead to demise.  Danny won't be like Red was in this regard.  The league is different today than it was 20 or 30 years ago.  I root for the Celtics regardless of whose name is on the back.  I appreciate Rondo, but if he's traded, he's traded...  Danny is about "assets" and I think he has ONE player who he will remain loyal to: Paul Pierce.  The others?  Not so much...

Yes.

We've always moved on.

Plus, while I do like Rondo a lot, let's remember that most of the great moments we think of with Rondo didn't come in the '08 run.  In the '08 run, Doc would often bench him in favor of House and/or Cassell.  He only put up 10 points and 6 assists per game on 40% shooting.

That doesn't mean that we shouldn't miss him if he goes.  However, while he certainly did help us in '08, he wasn't the huge piece of the title run that some might selectively remember him to be.

Again, this is not knocking Rondo.  He's a good, perhaps even great player.  But if it's what is best for the team in the long run, we need to make the deal.

Plus, while we may miss him in the short term.  Nostalgia isn't going to get us through the post Big Three Era.

I cheer for the Celtics above all else.  As long as they do things fairly and ethically I am fine with it.  I was not fine with the way they strung Powe along before not offering him a deal after he physically sacrificed himself in the NBA Finals.  That's one of the few exceptions I can think of.

These players helped to create memories for me, and I'd obviously like to see them stay to re-create the things I miss.   But if we never welcome in change, then we would have never had Ray & KG to cheer for and build memories from.  I am grateful for Big Al and the memories he gave us, but I am happier now that we parted with him b/c it gave us the past few years.

Well said........you always have to keep moving forward, you can't stand atill in the NBA and relive the past for ever.

The object is to continue the success , and this requires RISKS and gambles .  Sometimes you win and then sometimes you hit paydirt.

NO team should ever strive for the status quo ......so what fun is that for fans knowing every year is just like the one before ?

Its time to shake up the club a little, bring on a new franchise /player /leader.

We are rooting for THE TEAM...the team always changes ....the players come and go .......the goal is whats best to produce a winning team .  Sometimes loyality suffers at the players expense....but thats part of their life and goes with the territory.

ask the Wizards how loyalty worked out with Gilbert Arenas. or better yet ask Cleveland fans how being loyal to players works out

not particularly the same circumstance, but it shows how there is a two way street.  Players do disloyal stuff to the franchise all the time.

Carlos Boozer anyone??  Lebron could still be playing in cleveland right now if he never left.

how about the celtics acquiring Kenny Anderson bc he refused to get on an airplane and report to Toronto

....im strongly against this CP3 trade, but this is NOT the reason why

This is where I'm admittedly stuck at.

Red Auerbach didn't do business like this. When he passed in 2006, I had almost become numb to the Celtics troubles.

I guess that I had forgotten what Red meant to Boston and Basketball. A lot of that Celtic Mystique remains, with Bill Russell.

All I'm saying is that I just don't like getting caught up in hype. Chris Paul is definitely a top 5 Player, but is he right for Boston? Even for one year? Would Red do such a trade?

Will Dwight REALLY come to Boston with CP3 here?

When has Boston EVER became caught up in hype? This is where my disconnect is coming from. Chris Paul, admittedly, intrigues me, to say the least. Any PG that is listed at 6'0" and can break down a 7'0" (Bynum) like he did last year - in the playoffs - you just don't see that often.

But we've all seen Rondo do the same incredible plays.

Loyalty isn't pouting when your buddy is traded.

I cheer for the laundry.  With few exceptions, I want the best players possible in green, and will cheer for them when they put on the jersey.

I tend to root for the uniform, although there are certain (former Celtics) players that, no matter the team, I root for (Leon Powe is close to the top of that list).

Celtics fan for life.

we need more of a kenny anderson or derek fisher..

Kenny Anderson was one of my favorite C's for postgame comments.

Still, back to the topic, I love cheering for Rondo and would rather we were barking up other trees than CP3.

So you'd cheer for Kobe and (gulp)....LEBRON...in Green ;D?

J/K.

With all of the rumors swirling, I won't be surprised if something big happens here soon.

I just hope that Boston doesn't mortgage their future for one player.

It's all about the name on the front of the jersey... Players come and go, but the name on the front will always be the same.

Danny and the whole Celtics organization has to do whats best for the team and do whatever they can to put them in the best position year, in and year out even if that includes using Rondo like it did trading Al Jefferson and Dennis Johnson.

I agree and also tend to root for the name on the jersey, but have a soft spot for certain players.  Some who have never even been celtics.  Interestingly, Chris Paul has always been on that list of players for me, so that's why I'm really eager to get him.

The OP brings up a good point though that someone tried to refute with the example of when KG and Ray were traded here.  The difference is that KG and Ray were assumed to be staying here for the following few seasons at least.  Chris Paul allegedly wants to **** of here once the season is over to play in NY.  Easier to root for KG and Ray considering that.
