I am excited.  Quite frankly, playing with our Big Four has a positive impact on other players.  Look what it's done for Baby and look how Shaq looked the first half of last season after some down years.  Even if Green doesn't get much better than he is, he can still be "better" with this team simply because other teams won't give him the defensive attention he normally would get if he's playing with our starters.

Will getting him the needed minutes requiring Pierce playing some 2 and/or Green playing some 4?  Yes.  But that's not a bad thing.  Doc has shown again and again that talent is much more important than size.  And while it's nice to have both, talent usually wins out.  And there aren't much more dynamic lineups in the league than a lineup of Rondo/Ray/Paul/Green/KG.

Just how many SFs are the Celtics supposed to have on the roster.

Pierce at $17 million
Green at the qualifying offer of $5.9 million
Battier at probably $3 million

Are we really supposed to have close to $26 million tied up in SFs when we have only one center on the team and that center has averaged playing only 5 out of every 8 games over the last 7 years and less than 30 minutes per game over the last 4 years?

I would try to sign and trade Green for a big man. The less years on the contract the better.

Mehmet Okur would be perfect, IMHO and Green a good fit in Utah while opening up the big man clog of traffic on the Utah roster.

I am looking forward to seeing what Green can do this season.  I think he feels he has something to prove--and he does!  I'm hoping this will light a fire under him.  Plus he's more familiar with the C's system.

I was really happy to read this quote from the excellent post here on Celtics Blog:

"Yeah, man, you know a lot of people don’t know what I can really do," he said. "In Oklahoma, I was kind of overshadowed by Kevin (Durant) and the way Russell (Westbrook) picked up, but, excuse my language, I can really (expletive) play. I can really play this game, man."

The other thing that I really like from that quote is that it sounds like Jeff has accepted the fact that he's a Celtic even before the free agency period begins.  He talks about his conversations with Ray and Paul and how "they are really going to let me play next year," meaning the Celtics.

Again, I think he takes the qualifying offer.

I'm really excited at the possibility of him not being on our roster this season, yes.

I think he has a good change to be really good and I think the list of equal or better alternatives are slim. Provided he is signed for reasonable money, go Jeff!

I am.

I believe he has a LOT to prove, and won't disappoint - especially with a training camp behind him.

He's not a rookie, and he has playoff experience with OKC. He'll be fine.

When Jeff Green gets a little more excited about Jeff Green, I will too.

He makes Sam Perkins look like a 25-year-old Allen Iverson.

I think the list of equal or better alternatives are slim.
Shane Battier
Josh Howard
Grant Hill
Tayshuan Prince
Luc Richard Mbah a Moute
Andrei Kirilenko
Thadeus Young

All these players are available and though I am sure the Celtics can't afford a few, they could afford a couple at much less than what they would have to pay Green.

Which couple do you think would be significantly cheaper: Luc Richard, and Mbah a Moute?

I am guessing these price ranges ...

Jeff Green = $35 million, five years
Shane Battier = $20 million, four years
Josh Howard = $8 million, two years or $9mil, three years or $5 million, one year
Grant Hill = $3 million per annum, one or two years
Tayshuan Prince = $26-28 million, four years
Luc Richard Mbah a Moute = $11 million, four years
Andrei Kirilenko = $25 million, three years
Thadeus Young = $335 million, five years
