Sounds like the Celtics want to sign and trade Davis.

Quote
From what I'm told, the Celts are happy about the whole sign-and-trade issue for tax teams, because that's the plan with Big Baby Davis

https://twitter.com/#!/SeanDeveney/statuses/140981729866432512

some reports set his value at just north of the full MLE (for non-tax paying teams) - so between 5 and 6 Million

got any realistic ideas? share with the class

I think Davis's time has come and gone

I think Doc + Danny are going in another direction and there are much much better Forwards out there than BBD

Well given the teams that might be interested, and the expected salary range AND getting back a contract that only last 1 year (or second year option):

Atlanta - Zaza Pachuilla

Detroit - Jason Maxiell

New Jersey - Don't really see anyone here

Indiana - Possible Posey return

Charlotte - Dasagna Diop

Denver - Gallinari or Afflolo & Kosta Koufos

Orlando - Brandon Bass or Daniel Orton & Ryan Anderson

New Orleans - Marco Belinelli and Quincy Pondexter

Phoenix - Michael Pietrus

Now I am NOT saying that these teams would pull the trigger on these trades. I'm just looking at fairly reasonable deals that match up (some with the help of a trade exception) with teams that might have interest in BBD.

I'd also throw in Anthony Morrow of NJ, Trevor Ariza or Jarrett Jack from NO, Nicholas Batum from Portland (we'd probably have to throw them a future first as well as Baby).

While looking through rosters to see who we could get for Big Baby two thoughts come to mind.
1. We should just keep Big Baby because what we will get in return for him (unless we can squeeze a protected first out of the deal) will not be worth more than he is. If he is determined to go I guess getting another player would not hurt.
2. I'm very happy that I can waste time at work thinking up NBA trade ideas.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

From my point of view, there would be a few options to pull off a sign and trade of Davis.

1. It could be to a team that is over the luxury tax, and need to sign and trade for him, in order to compete with teams who can offer him the larger MLE.

2. It could be a team under the cap, who like him, but would like to preserve cap space, and have guys who they might not need as much under contract.

3. It could be a double sign and trade, where a team who wants Davis, sign and trade someone they don't want to resign to the C's.

4. (and I love this one, if they can pull it off), a team under the cap takes some cash from the C's to sign and trade for Davis, creating a trade exception for the C's.

5. I believe the C's would be able to use the Amnesty provision on someone they trade for who is already under contract, so they could get someone with more than 1 year left on their deal, use them for the year, then cut them next summer, if they want the cap space.

With all that said, the trade that makes the most sense for both teams IMO is Davis to Indiana (who desperately need a PF), for Dahntay Jones (they don't need him), and a resigned Jeff Foster.

I dont know if phoenix would be interested but id like a Robin Lopez for BBD trade. We gain length off the bench and robin is still young. However we would need to add a vet PF to fill minutes behind KG, assuming Johnson isnt ready.

Center JO, R Lopez
PF     KG, J Green, Vet(R evans?) J Johson
SF     Pierce, J Green
SG     Ray, West, Bradely
PG     Rhondo, West Bradely

another option that im not sure works out $$ wise is a S&T for Camby. He is definetly a stop gap and i dont want to see us get older but he might give us the best chance of winning this year. For portland ive always thought BBD would fit well along side aldrige and wallace
Mavs
Wiz
Hornet

Chris love that trade you mentioned with Indiana. Let's hope the Pacers strike out on West.

scary but with his history with KG, I don't think we'll see that one come to pass.

If the Celtics SnT Davis it should/would be for a player who is expiring.

Or maybe the Hornets could SnT Landry for Davis, another option is the Raptors SnT Evans for Davis.

I am eager to see what Ja Juan Johnson can do for us. That said, I think there are less expensive options for us at back up rotation big men for us. Rashard Lewis might be available to us through the amnesty program, for us.

oj mayo from memphis or jason thompson from the kings are two relastic options i wouldnt be all that surprised if danny makes this happen

but i'd hope to see danny get a little more creative now that teams can recive 140% plus 100 k

a glen davis/jeff green package for josh smith is very possiblle(yes there will be other fillers & picks etc.)

another trade i'd like to see but contractually may be too much would be a jeff/baby/bradley package for oj mayo/rudy gay & maybe darell arthur
i'd honestly throw in ray to make up for salary as he'd likely get bought our or(wait for it) AMNESTY'D! lol & make a return to the celtics

EDIT:i just saw rudy gay's exact contract of 15 MILLION?! i'd love to see the guy in green but im not sure how we get that done but oj mayo is still a very possible target
