Can we get us some Reggie Williams, please?

He is playing in Spain and his Spanish team is paying him more than the Warriors did...plus they also pay his income tax (so its tax free money), house and use of car with a driver. I don't know if he'll come back this season.

Quote from: ESPN NBA RUMORS
Golden State Warriors guard Reggie Williams signed with Caja Laboral during the lockout, but never had a good run with the team due to injuries.

The two sides mutually decided to part way on Friday, according to EuroBasket.com and he is free to re-sign with the Warriors on Dec. 9.

Williams averaged just 11 minutes and 4 points during his time in Spain.

Yeah, my info was old and I assumed he was still playing in Spain.

So what are the thoughts on Reggie?

I'm a fan of his game, and its not like we couldn't use a SG/SF who can 'score the basketball'.

He's a trainwreck defensively, but being so young I doubt he's beyond saving, and I'd love him to take the minutes Marquis left.

A top 8 rotation of

Rondo/West
Allen/Williams/West
Pierce/Williams/Green
KG/Green/JJ
JO/?/KG

Would just about make my day.

I see Quis coming back. We really need more size but if we add a center or two I don't see either Green or Davis, or both, coming back. The other thing we need is a legit scoring threat off the bench, a Vinnie Johnson type, that can help Pierce and Allen. If we totally rely on them again all season as "go to" scorers, they won't have anything left in the tank come playoff time. I don't feel Delonte can be that type of player though he's a solid bench performer.

I'd be more than happy to take a flyer on him...he can score no doubt. It was painful to watch the bench go through scoring droughts last season.

That was my thought too. Glen Davis's black-hole-and-inaccurate style of play, while daring, is not my ideal solution to a bench option for scoring.

Plus, Reggie Williams passes the ball, doesn't make dump plays, and can score on anyone.

If he only played defense, he'd be making 8 million a year.

I bet our team will look a lot like it has in the last two years, bringin back guys who are familiar with the system since like the NFL, we are screwed with out a proper training camp.

Yes, I think this is the best "bet" for the Cs both in the short and long term. Do what you can to (a) keep the core together without (b) damaging your chances at a major FA run next year. (a) will help keep the Cs at a competitive advantage this year (bc all the guys already play with each other).
Celtics fan for life.

Shelden Williams would be a guy we should take another look at.

He was pretty solid up in Denver b4 he was traded to NYK

I think he is better than Glen Davis who tbh is just fat and cant dunk

He wouldnt cost alot either

A pretty solid guy

I like it -- but then the big question mark is your question mark.

I wonder if I'll get laughed off the blog for mentioning names like Alexis Ajinca and Hamed Haddaddi as young, cheap free agent centers worth looking at?

I'll jut go through my list of cheap non-veterans who have played in the D-League and Europe: Courtney Sims, Sean Williams, Stephane Lasme, Tony Gaffney, Eric Boateng, Dwayne Jones.  I know some of them are playing in Europe, some with NBA out clauses.  These guys are often the last guy cut in training camp, as teams decide to go with a veteran or the guy they actually drafted.  At least half of them could probably be at least a fringe rotation player on a good team if given the chance and be at least as good as Semih Erden was last year.  They should appeal to anyone who thinks the Celtics should have found a way to keep Chris Johnson.

There are also undrafted rookies worth an invite: Greg Smith, Michael Dunigan, and Malcolm Thomas.  These are some of the bigs who a lot of people thought would get drafted, but didn't.  There are always a few second round or undrafted guys who contribute to playoff teams.

At the very least, I expect people to agree that these players are better options than a "veteran" such as DJ Mbenga or Shelden Williams.

after his disastrous play against the Lakers in the playoffs, Shelden will not be in Celtic green again in his career.

I'm gonna hope for resigning Baby, Green and West - let's be honest, we aren't going to do any better than those three for that value. That at least gives us a decent 10 if you count the rookies and Bradley. Then, I'd go Kwame and Kyrylo Fesenko (love that guy) to back up JO - nothing fancy but really two big bodies who are going to be strong defenders and enforcers in the lane. With them in the fold, ideally for the minimum, I think you go out and grab the best wing available to backup the 2 and 3 - maybe even an older guy like Grant Hill or Shane Battier. Then I'd finish up with some Wafer action as depth. Ends up with:

1 - Rondo/West/Bradley
2 - Allen/?/West/Wafer/Bradley
3 - Pierce/Green/?/Wafer
4 - KG/Baby/Green/Johnson
5 - JO/Brown/Fesenko/KG

Could be worse.
2023 Historical Draft: Toronto Raptors

Shooting Guard: Paul Westphal, Paul Pressey
Small Forward: Marques Johnson, Danny Granger
Power Forward: Jermaine O'Neal, Bobby Jones, Kiki Vandeweghe
Center: Marc Gasol, Serge Ibaka

We're most likely going to resign West, Green, Davis, and possibly Wafer (I can see him at the least getting a training camp invite) That will kill our MLE under the new CBA, so we're going to be going after people like Kwame Brown, Marquis Daniels, Kyrylo Fesenko, maybe Iverson, and possibly Josh Howard if he wants to come for cheap.

I can see our depth chart rounding out like this:

PG) Rondo, West, Bradley
SG) Ray, Marquis, Wafer
SF) Pierce, Green, Howard
PF) KG, Baby, JaJuan
C) JO, Kwame, Fesenko

Not too shabby.

Josh Howard
T-Mac
Kwame Brown
Joel Pryzbilla
Caron Butler
Shane Battier
Deshawn Stevenson
Tayshaun Prince
Al Thornton
Leon Powe
Michael Redd
David West
Roger Mason
J-Rich

Are just a few names that we should be looking at

Get rid of KG and his mammoth $21million contract. He is 35 and isnt going to do anything. Trade now and clear the space for 2012, you could just keep him for this season, but i think we could get some draft picks for him or something.

Also look at moving Ray Allen on(36)to possibly sign someone like a Jason Richardson for example.

We have to get younger. this team was the oldest in the league last season. Ainge knows this + He needs to ship both KG + Ray Allen outta town
