I think it might be a good idea to get our rosters into Yahoo!, in the event that the season might in fact be lost. This would allow us to keep records and simplify trades.

I can't upload rosters until everyone cuts down their rosters to 16 players or less, though. So, when should this happen?

I have mixed feelings on this one.

I'll say January 1 (or January 2, so people can enjoy their day off).  I want to see my guys play in a pre-season, but I also think that having a better handle on free agents will help us evaluate trades.

I voted December 1st.

Should we also consider a cap on # of trades? Until late last season we'd never had enough activity to warrant a discussion.

Cap on trades, or moves?

I don't see the logic behind capping the number of trades. Of course, I'm only midway through my second cup this morning.

I don't thinks so. There doesn't seem to be any harm in it. Plus, it gives everyone something to do while we wait out the lockout. Especially if the lockout last until next season.

All the games until Dec 15th are cancelled anyway...so I don't know why we have to trim the roster earlier than that.

Vote Jan 1st! ;D

I'd say not to worry about it until the season is either scheduled or canceled.  There are lots of long-term leagues and I don't think Yahoo will shut down the rosters right away if they scrap the season.

We don't need to be in a rush when we're in basketball limbo anyway, especially when there's so much uncertainty about who might stay in Europe or wherever.

Fewer trades. How many players have we seen already dealt twice this off-season? Given the uncertainty around two NBA free agent classes, the potential amnesty clause, etc., the case can be made that some managers are at risk of setting themselves back longterm. It's a health of the league kind of concern. But I'm not trying to take away what little fun people can have discussing the NBA. I am slightly worried what we'll see when the smoke clears, can guys stomach losing for three or four straight years?

This is a sound argument, but since we already opened the Pandora's box of trading amidst all the uncertainty, I don't see any further downside in beginning free agency?

P.S. I had to give everybody in the room a Tommy Point just for being the sort of serious NBA heads willing to discuss fantasy basketball on a Friday afternoon in the midst of lost season.

What else are we going to do? Work? Please.

To flip this around. Managers can try to identify post lockout at-risk players and trade them away. I did this in both leagues. I don't know if it will work, but I would rather be proactive then have the lockout lift next fall and find 3-4 guys on my roster retired or out of their starting gigs.

Right, that's a nice approach. Although, I'm not clever enough by half to pull it off myself. But I'm not proposing a halt to trading altogether, just a cap to slow the pace.

What else are we going to discuss? Should I try to drum up support again for cutting the Utility spot?

I still don't see why we have to put a cap on the number of trades. If the two GMs involved are okay with it, then I'm okay too.

EDIT: If health of the league is a concern, put a complete halt on trades until the lockout ends...not a cap.
