So, with three weeks until cutdown day, are there any rule changes we should discuss / put up for a vote?

Two come to mind:

1. Cap on roster moves during the playoffs: currently, it's one per week. With the compressed schedule, I wonder if two per week might be better?

2. Trading future picks on draft day: currently, it's not allowed. I am not in favor of a change, but others have expressed some desire to allow for trading a draft day pick for a future pick.

I'd love to hear other opinions on this.

So far, it appears that there's no momentum to allow additional playoff roster moves (unless, perhaps, of injury).  There does seem to be an early consensus for allowing the trade of the next year's draft picks on draft day.

IMO, I think there should no roster moves during the playoffs unless there is an injury. I also think trading of next years draft picks should be held off until the previous draft is completed.

Re: roster moves:

1. I am not in favor of reducing roster moves during the playoffs.

2. I am not interested in having to determine what are and are not acceptable levels of injury to allow a conditional roster move during the playoffs.

It seems that right now, folks are not in favor of an increase, and that's fine. I will fight hard against a decrease in allowable moves.

I think you should go into the playoffs with the roster that got you there (with injury being the only exception).

If the injury prevents the player from seeing any court time, then the GM that owns that player should be allowed to make a roster move. But if an injured player sees court time, like for example, Rondo was injured in the playoffs last season but continued to play, then we don't allow a roster move in such case.

For the sake of argument, let's say that Rondo severely sprains his ankle in practice the day before Game One of a playoff matchup.

All reports say he is ruled "out" for Game One. Should Rondo's owner be allowed to make a roster move to replace him before Game One happens?

What happens if he is ruled out the eve before a game, and yet minutes before game time makes a miraculous recovery?

To put it differently, is there something fundamentally different between weekly regular season matchups and weekly playoff matchups that necessitates completely different roster management protocols? I don't believe so.

If we get one move per week during the regular season, I think we should have one move per week during the playoffs.

I say go with the yahoo listings for injured players. If yahoo shows them as injured, fine, they can be placed on the IL, if not too bad

There is no IL in Yahoo, or in the NBA.

Here's another consideration: allowing one roster move per week during the playoffs gives further incentive for non-playoff teams to remain clued in to what's going on in the league, instead of checking out.

I think that there is something different.  The regular season -- much like in the "real" NBA -- is about getting your roster set for the playoffs.  Once the playoffs hit, it's all about determining the best team.  The NBA recognizes this principle by not allowing teams to sign free agents in the playoffs.  Neither the NBA nor fantasy leagues allow trading in the playoffs.

Playoffs are all about dueling to see who has the best team.  They're not about seeing who can cycle in the most players to game the system.  I'm sure we've all lost fantasy matchups because our opponent decides to cycle, and get a huge games played advantage.  That's gaming the system, and simply isn't any fun.

I don't know...but players usually suck it up and play through injuries in the playoffs...and our playoffs don't coincide with NBA playoffs anyway. I think if a player sprains his ankle during the regular season, he will very likely sit out.

I'm not in favour of any moves except in case of injuries of course...but if its going to cause any issues, then I say we don't allow any moves at all.

EDIT: Or we could just put an end to roster moves a week after the trade deadline.

Is one roster move a week really "gaming" the system? I don't buy it.

My preference would be no moves, as well.  However, I think one move does keep the non-playoff and eliminated teams a bit more active.  When a GM drops a borderline rotation player to cycle, a competing GM can then pick him up.

I guess I would vote against my instincts, and suggest that we stay with 1 move.  However, if we are going to make a change, I'd say fewer moves, not more.
