1. When I see things like the letters written by Dan Gilbert, or Sterling just being the terrible person he is, I am glad this league does have a strong leader like Stern.  If they had someone any less strong, then the owners would be running the show even more than they are now, and that is a scary proposition, given how much they refuse to work together.

2. I feel pretty confident that if Stern (or someone similar) was not the commissioner, the lockout would still be going on, because the owners would still be going at each other, and unwilling to compromise because of it.

2. Stern has done an incredible job of deflecting blame from the owners, who are the ones really responsible for most of this stuff.  While Stern has enough pull with them to keep them mostly in check, they are still the ones pulling the strings.  If it weren't for the owners trying to assert their authority, Stern would never have stepped in on the Lakers deal, and of course, the owners were the ones who kept the lockout going as long as it did, not Stern.  But Stern has done a tremendous job of absorbing the blame, in order to protect those who pay his salary.

Now, Stern is by no means a great guy.  He is a hard-headed egomaniac.  But he also is not what is wrong with this league IMO.  There are deep-seeded problems in the system that goes over Stern's head, and I can't imagine many commissioners could do a whole lot better.

Don't get attached to that Clippers pick this year. It's top 10 protected I think. I'm pretty sure the Clippers will "win" the lottery this year and end up with the #2 pick or so

And the Knicks will get the #1 pick?
