Just saw on RealGM that there seems to be some type of boycott starting

http://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/216296/NBA_Fans_Begin_Boycott_Movement

And it got me thinking -

I think its a safe assumption that everyone on Celticsblog will probably come running back to the NBA once the season returns.

But is there a point where you'd start your own form of "protest"? Maybe you promise yourself to buy less tickets this season, or stay away from merchandise?

For me, I think I've got one more "fall out" meeting left in me. I don't think I'd go as far as mapping anything out, but I do think I'd make a point to spend less money on the NBA this season.

Here's the problem...a boycott doesn't hurt the league, because it just shows that the fans still care, and that means they will be back.  What would hurt them is if everyone just moves on quietly, and that is not something that can be organized, it has to be a choice of individuals.

Oh ya, at the end of the day it's not going to make a dent, even if groups are organized.

Just something I think I could see myself doing 'morally' that'd make me feel a little better about having to endure this lockout. At the end of the day the only person who'd notice a difference would be me.

Not for me.

I took the Loyalty Plus plan as a season ticket holder.  The idea of boycotting has never crossed my mind.

To me, this is an NBA thing and, IMO, the system was hinging on being broke and this type of thing needed to happen for the long-term health of the league.  I anticipated the lockout and didn't expect much (if any) of a season in the first place. I thought the lockout was a necessary evil that was going to happen and help fix things.

If the Celtics, as an organization, had done something to me then I could see myself boycotting but this is a league wide thing.

But, I just like pro basketball and the Celtics have treated me well, so I'm not going anywhere.

When all is said & one, it's just a game.  Nothing to get ridiculously worked up against.

That being said, the owner of the Celtics is believed to be an owner who was threatening to lose an entire season, really our last season that we'd be likely to be considered contenders (even if its a stretch) for a while.  He's been a great owner for us, and I understand why he'd want to do this.  But at the end of the day the logical side of my brain can't defeat the side of my brain that's thinking about how I'm missing games now.

Nah. I'm more of a casual fan so I can't be bothered to be involved with any kind of formal protest.

Yeah. I wouldn't call it a boycott per se, but lets say this goes on for a while longer, yeah man. I'll just not watch basketball. At some point it needs to be acknowledged that they're (both parties are) screwing the fans, and if we all come back like a bunch of suckers, what's that say about us?

So yeah, I don't know where that line is for me, and imagine its different for everyone, but once I hit it, I'll know.

Changed the subject line. Having it say "Formal Protest" didn't really match my intended point.

If this lockout ends, and NBA League Pass is offered again in some form, I'll now stop and take a moment to consider whether to purchase it. Before, it was an automatic thing.

I will wait and let the NBA bribe me back.

Until then, a lot of football, college basketball and a little hockey.

Don't know what a formal protest would be. I can only say that I had seasons tickets for the Pats for over 15 years and I did not renew them this year. I know they just sold them to someone else so they don't care, but I will never give them another dollar out of my pocket. I'll watch the games on TV. Still like football but not the business end.
I feel the same about basketball. I'll watch the games on TV, but I won't give either the players or owners any of my money by going to the games. They have lost me on that end.
And yes I'm well awhere that they get TV revenue, but I don't get charged o watch the games. It comes with my basic cable. If they ever charge for it, I will not watch it on TV either.
Don't know if that makes any sense, but it's how I feel.

Maybe Cman could go to that park near his house, round up a few of those OWS types and explain to them that the players and owners are both part of the 1%. Some of them may migrate their protests to where the negotiations are taking place.

I would like to say "I won't go to any games".

But seriously, this could be the last year of the big three.  If I don't get at least one more game in, I'll be kicking myself.

  • Another undersized Celtic...
I wouldn't protest. Sitting at home on a Monday night and all that is on is gossip girl, I'm watching the C's bro, no matter how peeved I am at the whole situation. And going to games is one of the only legit excuses I get to go out once in a while without the wife. Sorry.

I'm too much of an NBA junkie to completely ignore the NBA once it comes back. Even tho I'm disgusted nd sick to my stomach of the lockout especially wit this potentionally being the last year of the Big 3 my eyes will be glued to the TV for sure without a doubt in my mind......But i lost respect for NBA players for this selfishness
