some interesting names that could be cheap backup options

http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/7147880/nba-most-likely-amnesty-candidates

Ryan Gomes might be a cheap flyer option

I could see Baron Davis, Gilbert Arenas, or Rashard Lewis in backup roles as well

I know they are all bad, but they are cheap and were at least talented at one time (Danny loves those kinds of guys)

Well, I'm a Rashard Lewis guy, so I'd love to see him here.  He may be too expensive, though, since we need to use the MLE on a big man.

I wouldn't mind Diop at a relatively low price (3 mil or lower)

Move Rashard back to the four alongside Garnett at the five. Run and gun.

Let Rondo loose in the open court surrounded by the finest collections of shooters in the league. Pick and roll centric halfcourt sets. It could be fun.

I would think that Diop could only command a minimum contract at this point.

Coming off a serious injury + he has been a non-contributor for two years now ... can't imagine him getting more than the minimum. Only a one year deal too.

Edit: Last two years = only 43 games played, under 500 minutes court time.

I hope that was a joke about Gnomes.

I would not take Lewis.  Too many jumpshots and little or no d and inability or unwillingness to use his frame in a team plan and play inside.   He plays soft to me.  It would be ok if he came off the bench.   But he is little more than Walter McCarty with a better jumper.  Orlando soured on him and Seattle did as well.  That being said he is one of the best players on this list.   I think we'd be better off the PP though at SF.  KG doesn't like playing C folks.   I would rather have KG at the four hole.

Diop, Okur and Brand is who I would target.  C help is what we need most.  Okur is somewhat injury prone.  Diop isn't qa strong rebounder.  Brand is the best of these three but he may not be amnesty cut.   But if he was I would go for him.   He boards the best and can score down low.  None of these guys is a lock down post defender.

Baron Davis is a good friend of Pierce, and would fit really well giving us a scoring threat off the bench who can run the point and create offense. I would be glad to take him if he comes cheap.

Yeah, I could see Davis aboard bc of the Pierce connection.
Other players on the list I like are Okur, R. Lewis.
Celtics fan for life.

Diop, Davis, Okur, Harrington or Lewis would be nice. Also remember that most of these players just got paid 10M so they will all want a championship contender, not cash.

Also unlikely to get released, but would be awesome: Antwan Jamison, Nate the Great, Eddie House, James Posey, Mikael Pietrus, Marcus Camby

Haywood would probably be the ideal option.  He is still a very solid center, but is very overpaid, so Dallas might need to cut him loose to resign Chandler.  He may not be a star, but he could step in immediately, and either start or come off the bench behind JO, and give the C's a little stability at that position.

When our other option is likely to be Kwame Brown, then yes, Haywood sounds great!

I like the idea of Shard.  We are unlikely to get a pure center in FA good enough to have a 4/5 rotation that would be more productive than a 4/5 rotation of KG, JO, Baby, and Shard.  I think Shard would want more than 1 year though which I can't imagine Ainge being on board for.  I think this would allow us to limit JO's minutes, which I this is very important.

I say absolutely no to Arenas.  I don't think he can be productive in limited minutes nor at the SG position.  I feel similarly about B-Diddy, but I'd prefer him to Arenas because of what a competitor he is when his team is a contender.  I think he wants to play and can't possibly imagine him coming to Boston over Miami.

Okur I would definitely be on board with.  Our offensive efficiency has shown to have incredible potential when we have a capable offensive center on the floor (Shaq, JO in playoffs)

Haywood would be a nice option as well.

Not an Al Harrington or Jamison fan.

Diop... a last resort.
