 Go from city to city, rent out gyms or arenas, play essentially a glorified pickup game,

The fans should show up for the most part, despite the lack of team cohesion or alegiance, just because it is more of a limited edition event, and will pay the money for the one or two games.


u just described the nba all star game :P

Exactly.  Which is why it would sell tickets for one or two games per city...but would not be sustainable for an actual season.

Ok, so if you didn’t like my And1 example, how about this much better example:

Al Bundy and his No Ma’am brethren have no way to entertain themselves during the baseball strike of ’94.  So they end up starting their own baseball league (sponsored by nudey bars).  It ends up being a success, but then when the nudey bars start making a lot of money of it, Al Bundy and the players strike.  So that league failed too. 

If Al Bundy can do it, I think the NBA players can too  ;)
