OK,
It's already been established that Jeff Green and Big Baby might not be the best fit for the Boston Celtics going forward as shown by the poor playoff performances both had this past year.  With that being said they are still quality young players that should have decent value around the leage.

The same thing can be said of Memphis's Rudy Gay and O.J. Mayo.  Memphis prooved that they could be sucessful without Rudy Gay after the great playoff run they had with him sitting on the bench in street clothes.  O.J. Mayo on the other hand saw his production drop, got beat up by Tony Allen, lost his starting job to Tony Allen, and was literally minuts away from being traded for probably the worst starting PF in the league, Josh McRoberts at the trade deadline before the league veto'd the deal for being approved a few minutes after the deadline.

I think a trade of:

Jeff Green
Big Baby Davis
and the Clippers 1st round draft pick that the Celtics own

for:

Rudy Gay and O.J. Mayo

This would be a win-win for both teams.  Memphis gets a player with a similar skill set to Gay in Green who will get paid much less money and need the ball less.  In Big Baby, they get a player that they can pencil in as their first big off the bench, who has championship and big game experience.

For the Celtics, they would receive players that could serve as great players off the bench now and easly fit in as replacements for Paul Pierce and Ray Allen going forward.  Gay & Mayo were both high draft picks that have put up numbers in the past, but have lost value over the last year or so. Gay due to injury and Mayo due to immaturity.  I think this is the type of deal that Danny should be looking to make once the lockout ends.  What do you guys think?

Memphis says no.

Celtics would be overloaded at the swing position.  They would have to trade one of those guys for a big man.

I don't even think Memphis does that trade straight up for Rudy Gay.

I'm pretty sure Memphis would rather have Darrel Arthur than Big Baby.

But could Rudy Gay play the 2? THAT is the question.

Is this trade even feasible given the salaries being dealt with and the limitations due to BYC and such?

Even if it is, Memphis laughs so hard Danny would quietly hang up the phone and pretend like he never made the call.

Looking over the numbers, no.  Even if Jermaine O'Neil and Bradley were added to even out the salaries.  I never got past the basketball aspect of things and didn't get too deep into contracts.  I was under the assumption that Rudy Gay made a little less than he did due to his time in service even though he signed a max deal.  I thought he was getting a little more than the $11 mil a year average Rondo gets.  I guess this idea is out.  LOL.

Even if Gay is too expensive to get.  I really think that O.J. Mayo needs to be a target of Danny Ainge.  He shoot really well from three and an athletic finisher at the rim and put up 17, 3 & 3 averages over his first two seasons.  Swaping out Baby for him would be an absolute steal.  Mayo had a horrible season and was better than Baby's best in my humble opinion.  Plus Mayo has tons of upside that obviously isn't recognized by Memphis.  He would be a great bridge player to take over at the 2 once Ray retires.

i think memphis would seriously consider this doubt this would be the actual deal but with a few pieces added & maybe another team involved i cant see why not ,& they've shown there chemisrty without rudy gay that team is a pound it inside team so a rudy gay for jeff green & glen davis deal isnt too far off after since that would just begin negotiations if teams only accepted/rejected deals Jamed harden would be a celtic right now ,oj mayo seems more likely tho danny wouldnt have to give away much they were going to trade him for josh mcroberts people ,probably a pick & avery bradley would get it done i quite like this proposal & i hope danny is at least considering taking advantage of the memphis log jam at wing

but i will say to deal for BOTH rudy & oj would be very hard to do but one of them seems very possible if the sign & trade is allowed in the new cba

Gay and Mayo are both better players than JG and BBD so no way this deal can happen.  Also Gay has a pretty sizable contract so financally it doesn't work either.
