Can't say I'll miss Butler.

Cringed everytime someone threw his way.

I was shocked he made it through the first round of cuts.

Same here.

That '09 class is shaping up to be a bit of a dud.  Butler & Brace were disappointing 2nd rounders although Chung has been decent (taken before both).  Vollmer, Ohrnberger, Pryor, and Edelman still remain.

Not sure that's a dud though.  Depending how good Chung proves to be, they have a pro bowler in Vollmer, a solid starter at worst in Chung, with potential to grow, a rotation DT in Prior, and a quality special teams guy with potential for more in Edelman.

Its not a great draft, but I think most teams would consider that a success.

Good point. And I do wonder...I am not great at knowing how to build an NFL roster. It is so deep, so nuanced in terms of playbook and team skills vs. individual skills. Plus the hard cap so that you can't afford to have a lot of high paid studs and still have great depth.

I do think that Bellichek has obviously missed in many drafts. However, I think his strategy of cutting ties as soon as skills slip or it's obvious a player doesn't fit the scheme works well since he is always building pure depth through the draft. Yes, a lot of picks get cut, but as pointed out above, a lot stick too because there are just so many players drafted due to his trading down for multiple picks; there just isn't room to keep all his picks and free agents. The other thing is that a lot of players in the NFL either outperform their draft slot by a lot or drastically underperform and it's highly random. Thus the "shotgun" approach bellichek uses seems to work well. His stock isn't tied to the success/failure of the first couple rounds; Pryor and Edelman fit great and seem like very good talents, and they were late picks.

The Patriots have been awarded linebacker A.J. Edds off of waivers, according to Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune.

Edds was cut by the Miami Dolphins on Monday after one season. The Dolphins drafted Edds in the fourth round of the 2010 NFL Draft out of Iowa, but he did not play last season due to a torn ACL suffered the first week of training camp.

He is 6-foot-4, 246 pounds and in one preseason game against the Atlanta Falcons this year he had seven tackles and one sack.

That means another roster move is coming.

Interesting sounding guy.
I guess this all means that things are still very much in flux.
Still no confirmation from the Pats that they signed the other Gronkowski, so many no other moves to come -- they might have just been kicking the tires on him.

With Edds apparently healthy, I've got to think that the Pats are going to try to put Tarpinian on the IR.

I know how you feel about BB and drafting, but I don't know that I completely agree with you (but don't misinterpret that I am saying BB is a draft genius).

For someone that was a "bust", Butler was claimed pretty quickly off waivers.  Same could be said for Tate.

More moves coming ... I can feel the electricity in the air, (or maybe that was just the thunderstorm ;)). Bill sems to be jockeying for position with some of these recent moves. Anyone heard anymore on the Brady pitch to get Moss out of retirement?

Not sure I like this move.

From everything I read, Warren had a solid camp and was providing a veteran voice & presence in the locker room.  Plus, I think depth on the D-line is more important than a 3rd TE right now.

Agreed.  Mike Reiss makes it seem as though Warren might be back in a week or so, but I'm skeptical -- it seems as though the league is making a run on all released Pats players...

It is strange. I hope the elder gronkowski is better than yeatmen, because otherwise it would have made sense just to cut Warren from the start. But if the plan was to bring yeatman back to the practice squad, then there would only be two TE's on the opening day roster, but by signing Gronk II, it's clear they want three active for game 1, not 2 active and 1 on the practice squad...so maybe yeatman just wasn't good, and BB wanted to find a 3rd better TE for the opening roster?

Agreed.  There's just been a whole heck of a lot of movement.  I like the pick up of OL Waters from KC, but all the rest is a bit mind boggling.
