BOS gets: Marcus Camby (roughly 9M exp. contract)

POR gets: Jermaine's exp contract, S&T Big Baby

Portland does it to free up cap space to resign Oden (They extended his qualifying offer so they're interested) and gets a backup PF/C for Aldridge and Oden.

Boston would do it to get a solid starting 5 again. Camby would fit in good with the Big 4 because he doesn't need a lot of touches, can play effective center, and his contract is up after (if there is one) next season. It would get Davis somewhere he could be effective, Camby somewhere he could win a championship before he retires. Camby was the DPOY before KG and can still play effective minutes, but it would be a good idea to get a MLE center to back him up. He's also averaged double digit rebounds his past 9 seasons.

Thoughts?

His lack of durability is very concerning.

Hate to say it but I think I'd rather have JO and Baby.  Even if Camby is fully healthy he's not better than a fully healthy JO.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

Neither will be fully healthy. I wouldn't even consider doing this trade unless we for sure knew Baby was gone.

I'd say the chances of JO and Camby contributing are about equal.  JO gives better offense and probably better man-to-man defense; Camby is a much better rebounder, and is just as good if not better at team defense.

All and all, it's a pretty lateral move, in my opinion.  I don't like either as a full-time starter.

I don't see the point.

Give up 2 decent-bench quality players for a very old, injury-risk, non-offensive player.

Now getting Camby to supplement JO and BBD would be good idea if it could be pulled off (for a reasonable price)

Would not do this trade.

Camby and JO are pretty equal.

The loss of Davis means having to find 2 playable big men off the bench with just the MLE.

Portland wouldn't do this trade. Not enough value for them.

exactly.  Camby is essentially Perkins.  Obviously he is much older, but that is his role.  Excellent rebounder, solid defender, not much offensively.  JO is essentially done and Davis has very little value around the league.  I just don't see what is in this for Portland.  I would do it from the C's perspective, but not if I'm the Blazers.

And how exactly does this trade free up money for the Blazers to sign Oden, when you put JO and Davis together they will be over 9 million and Davis probably gets a multi-year contract.  That doesn't save money at all.

I'm still all for a big gamble if I'm the C's by taking on Roy, Camby, and Oden for Garnett and Allen.  If they wanted Davis, I'd include him as well.  This is the sort of trade that the C's need to make.  Sure it is a big time gamble on the health spectrum, but if even one of Oden or Roy can stay healthy, it positions the C's much better going forward and keeps them in title contention and if both can stay healthy, makes the C's one of the favorites.

I don't see why Portland would trade Camby, and I also am not sure Camby is an upgrade over Oneal.  They are both old and fragile, but Jermaine is cheaper, and may be a more versatile player when he is healthy.

If we are going to trade Jermaine, I think it should be for a center with significantly less durability concerns, otherwise, we are better off sticking with him, and trying to find other ways to bring in some depth.

Actually over the past 5 seasons Camby has been far more durable.

Jermaine O'Neal 33.  Glen Davis 25.  Marcus Camby 37.  Do you want to get older in the Center position after last year? Also trade 2 players who play a lot of minutes in the center position, the position with least depth, for a single old and unreliable guy?
