This should say "Your Gut Feeling" and not "You Gut Feeling".

I personally believe there will be.. As this story points out the players would be getting a worse deal in the future if there is no season.

http://www.hoopsworld.com/Story.asp?story_id=20619

Fact is the owners hold all the cards just like they did in 1998-99. The players in my opinion will holdout as long they can until the threat of missing an entire season is real just like in 1999. In this way they bargain for as much as they can get.

If a season is missed the owners will make them pay for that in the next CBA.

I believe there will be a shortened season this year.

Now whether that is good for the Celtics or not is another topic entirely...

No.  I think they're too far apart.

At the very best, maybe a severely shortened season but I wouldn't be shocked at all if there was no 2011-2012 NBA season.

Hope I'm wrong.

My gut says no season, even though that defies logic.

My gut says they'll sort something out - the owners are holding most of the cards but not all of em, as they'll start losing money too when things get cancelled.

Take a whole season off and it won't just be the Hornets that need to be rescued by the league.  But I think some regular-season games will be missed for sure.

My gut says no season, even though that defies logic.

The scary thing is that I'm beginning to think this viewpoint is following logic and not defying it.

My gut says, "When's lunch?"

But yeh, I agree...no season.  Bunch of knuckleheads.

Shortened season is a best case scenario is what my gut is telling me.

If a lot of players see success in playing overseas and making some money there, the union could become split about how long to hold out and this could go a full season and then the onus of the problem starts to fall on the owners because if they lose a whole season and now a majority of players see there is money to be made worldwide by playing anywhere but the U.S. it might have to be the owners that start giving in before the start of the 2012-13 season.

I think the overseas money and just how much is there and how many players take it could be a big factor here. If overseas leagues see significant revenue stream increases due to having NBA players, this could split the union severely or uphold it long term as players go elsewhere to play. The owners might be able to afford one lost season but they couldn't afford more than one.

It feels like only a few games will be missed if any at all.  I know the owners have most of the power and are fully willing to take a year off, but I think something unexpected will happen and they'll work it out.

Then again, my gut doesn't have a whole lot of brain activity going on.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

My gut tells me that the entire season will be missed.  I feel 100% confident that the owners are dedicated to fixing the system, and feel like they cannot give in like they did last time to a system that does not make sense financially (in their opinion).

And at the same time, I think the players, for whatever reason, do not believe that the owners are serious.  I think the players are preparing to play chicken, and I don't think they are going to realize that they can't win this until it is past the point of return for next season.

If the players are that dumb, then why won't the lockout go on to the season after that?  Either they give in so they can play, or they commit to fighting, depends on which they care about more.

I find it hard to believe that the players will just suddenly realize the state of affairs AFTER they've already given up their season.

Too early to say.

Neither side is going to feel any urgency to reach a deal until late September early October.

I don't think they are that dumb.  I think they are being led by people who benefit more by stringing things along, and keep their own names in the headlines, and who might not be keeping the players best interest at heart.

I think once the players miss several pay checks, and they see the owners comfortably sitting back and waiting, they are going to realize that the owners weren't bluffing, and they should get what they can, because with each missed game, the owners offers will likely be shrinking rather than getting larger, because they will be working in their losses from this season into the deal.

I agree and I have to think that the overseas market for players might be enough to sustain enough players through the lockout for this to possibly be looking at a second lost season whereby then I think it will be the owners that crash.
