If getting Chris Paul guarantees Dwight Howard, and Danny Ainge CAN trade Rondo for Paul... that deal has to be a no brainer.

getting chris paul doesnt guarantee **** and people are concerned about his knees. the big question is: how many years will he be able to play on a high level? the guy was hurt a lot in the last years.

and I wouldnt like getting howard and paul, I don't like the new teambuilding strategy 2 or 3 superstars + garbage.

Hurray! One person I agree with!

Some money for a serviceable center, try to get Josh Smith (he's friends with Rondo, also claims he likes the Celtics), try to get OJ Mayo. They'll both demand much less than Paul and Howard. Then we can shop for a bunch of solid backups.

Getting Chris Paul gives us someone almost the exact same age as Rondo who is a better overall player.
He has had injured knees but he has also sat out alot of games.
NBA GM's aren't worried about Chris Paul's knees to stop trading for him- you can be sure of that.

You are wearing green glasses if you think that CP3 isn't an upgrade over Rondo, he gives us much needed scoring AND the ability to find our big 3 wide open.
Think about how many scoring droughts we go on when Rondo is firing 20 potential assists and the big 3 are missing. Rondo then unfortunately can't take the scoring into his own hands when he wants- this is something CP3 can do with his 1v1 offense and his ability to execute the pick n roll vs pretty much any defensive scheme.
He gives us another dimension that would probably make us better than we currently are. PLUS he has the added bonus of bringing other free agents to our team ie: Howard.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

We are going to have the most money to spend in the entire NBA and you want to save money and pass on Howard and Paul and go for Mayo and Smith? Where does that leave us? We are essentially the Atlanta Hawks with a better PG in Rondo, while Josh Smith shoots us out of contention and OJ mayo has a 25 point game every now and then. Can you see the flaw with that starting unit?
Who shoots the ball?  combo of OJ mayo and Josh smith throwing up 40 shots every night? Lebron and Wade would be licking their chops thinking about meeting us in the first round of the playoffs.
No thankyou

ATL runs a lot of isolation. Josh Smith would be getting easier shots near the basket rather than fighting to get there.

We get Paul and/or Howard, they'd be demanding a heck of a lot because they're universally acknowledged top 10 players. But that's not what I really care about. I just really don't like knee problems having just watched our whole season collapse on two pairs of those things.

Plus, Rondo's contract is a hell of a bargain.

Getting Josh Smith could also help us get Dwight. It would also solve quite a few of our problems.

- Josh Smith is friends with Dwight.
- We'd get rid of Jeff Green, who is quite the enigma.
- http://www.hoopinionblog.com/2011/02/breaking-down-josh-smith-as-small.html He could be our future starting SF with Pierce at SG (Pierce has to start).
- We keep Rondo, putting an end to this very conundrum. Yes, I like Rondo a lot.
- We're not guaranteed to get Howard if we get Chris Paul. Dwight Howard is one of the few most coveted FAs of the decade. If we can't get Dwight, we'd still have Rondo and Smith to build around. Josh Smith has expressed interest in joining the Celtics, Dwight Howard expressed nothing.

If you can get Paul for Rondo, you do it.  No matter what the other trades are.

How do you get Smith?  Trading Ray?

And Smith is a PF.  He doesn't shoot well enough to be a SF, especially next to Rondo.

And Pierce is made into a three point shooter only because he is the only one left to stretch the floor for Rondo.

Plus, why would Atlanta make such a trade unless they were getting Rondo or KG?  Ray and Green is useless to them with Johnson and Williams being there and close to even.

They're looking to unload his contract and he wants out anyway.  I reckon they'd be quite interested in Jeff Green and cash since CBS reckons that ATL would take Ryan Anderson.http://probasketballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/06/22/report-josh-smith-to-orlando-magic-trade-rumors-%E2%80%9Clegit%E2%80%9D/

Chris Paul is better than Rondo. Period. My main concern is Paul's knees. Paul's knees are probably going to blow before Rondo learns a jump shot (I'm fairly convinced he will). Rondo would probably have a longer shelf life and I'd take longevity and gradual improvement over the instant upgrade that may someday come back to screw us with the knees. That's my personal opinion.

As for stretching the floor, I've been saying all along that I think we have plenty of jump shooting. The problem with our offense is that we lack penetration. Dwight Howard and Chris Paul are not the only free agents in 2012. OJ Mayo anyone?

I was daunted by the idea of a short PF thanks to the Big Baby breakdown. Maybe it won't be so bad with Smith. The knock on him is he loves his jump shot too much but I'm sure Rondo can solve that. From what I hear, ATL is all isolation, which may mean it's hard for Smith to get a shot inside.

I'd be happy with Rondo, Mayo, Pierce, Smith and a FA center or Rondo, FA shooting guard, Pierce, Smith and Howard. I'm sure Jajuan Johnson can back him up.

A trade rumor that didn't happen.  Not to mention the cap rules.

Boston doesn’t have a lot of trade chips, but they could theoretically part with Ray Allen or Kevin Garnett. Not likely, especially in KG’s case. And after last season, are the Celtics going to trade part of their core away again midseason? For Josh Smith? He brings shot blocking and some athleticism, but he also brings a jump shot he keeps taking and missing.

I really would like to see this current Celtic team have one more crack at going after a title together.  I think we still have a shot to be in contention.  To me, that's really all you can ask for going into a season.  Sure, if we traded Rondo for Paul straight up, we'd still be considered a contender, but I don't think it would up our chances significantly.  Getting by the likes of Miami and Chicago would still be a challenge, and then getting by whoever comes out of the West wouldn't be easy either.

This team has been special to me as a Celtics fan since they were brought together in in the summer of 2007.  Rondo has grown alongside his three celebrated veteran teammates over the course of the past four seasons and reached a point where he's as crucial to the success of this team as anyone else.

I don't get the callousness with which many of the fans treat the players who play for our beloved basketball team.  We often decry the lack of loyalty by the players towards the fans and the organization, but it seems to me that loyalty needs to be a two way street for it to exist.  It's the individuals who play for the team that make up the lore and the legacy of the team.  A jersey never scored a basket, made a sweet assist or dove for a loose ball.

Rajon Rondo has earned the opportunity to get to try to play himself into the category of Celtic legend as far as I'm concerned.  Currently, he's well on his way.  I'm hoping he gets the chance to get there.  If Celticsblog ran the Celtics, unfortunately, he'd be on the next bus to New Orleans.

"Thanks for everything, Rajon, don't let the door hit you on the behind on the way out."

True, Paul's more clutch and more consistently aggressive, but Rondo has never had a chance to carry a team (although he showed flashes when KG was out in the form of averaging a triple double) and I included his spacing issues in "running an offense."

I don't know about that.  His offense opens things up more than Rondo's, definitely.  But I have no clue who would win in a pure passing contest.

I don't think so. Paul may get as many assists but when it comes to seeing passing lanes and being able to deliver that special pass or make a pass no one else in the league can, that person is Rondo.

Paul is almost as good but not quite. I've seen Rondo make length of the court bounce passes left handed, extra high bounce passes in traffic to lead the big man in an almost poor man's alley oop manner, ball spin bounce passes through traffic, no look alley oops. I just don't see that special way of creating a pass in Paul's game as I do Rondo's.

Again, I've seen Paul do some special things with the ball passing too, but right now, Rondo is the best in the league.
