Quote from: OsirusCeltics on August 05, 2011, 01:31:49 PMBill Russell wasn't filling the stat sheet with points. Never averaged over 20 ppg... but he has 5 MVPsBut he was averaging 16-18 PPG, over 20 rebounds per game, was the best defensive player in the league and it wasn't close and Boston beat writers used to count his blocked shots because they weren't an official stat and some claim he was averaging over 10 blocks a game. Almost no one in the league has ever tried to say that that claim is invalid. If Rondo could average 15 PPG, dish out 15 assists per game and average 10 steals a game without being a good shooter or making 60% on his FTs, I am sure he would be MVP, but that's not going to happen.

I know Rondo is exciting, but he plays awkward. His type of style doesn't make him a media darling

I know Rondo is exciting, but he plays awkward. His type of style doesn't make him a media darlingI don't agree with this for the most part.I think Rondo is definitely a media darling- particularly after he broke his arm in the playoffs-they put him up on a pedestal and will do so for a while. His flashy plays are why people love watching the Celtics.Rondos flashiness combined with the hard work of both KG and Ray Allen playing way younger than their real age, sprinkled in with Paul Pierce is what basketball fans love. Our team is the perfect mix of hard work and a little bit of showmanship.Rondo got picked 2nd behind Rose by NBA fans all over the world. I think that speaks mountains to his appeal and his exciting style- as good a defender as he is he sure wasn't picked for his defensive or leadership abilities.
