Cuz he didn't have any idea where else he could go.  do you guys honestly think:

1. season will happen, then
2. all 29 other managers in the nba agree for cp3 to be traded to boston? (NOH owned by NBA currently!)
3. we will give up rondo in order to sign cp3 to take on even more money?

it's a tough call, is cp3 worth that? even with his injuries?  we'd have no great backup if he does get injured.

Would rather have CP3 than Rondo.

I'm not following Bucher's logic:

The C's could either trade Rondo for CP or simply sign CP as a free agent, but the latter option would leave them with both RR and CP, so they'd trade for him instead?

Rondo's a rising star with a favorable contract.  It's not as if they'd need to dump him to make room for CP--he could presumably be traded for another very good player.

I think that was Forsberg adding in some stuff at the end in regards to signing him.... Also based on the new rules they anticipate having with salaries Rondo and CP3's new contract would be almost identical in this scenario.

But who cares if their salaries are identical if CP would sign as a FA here anyway?  (I know, I think you're saying that's just CF's conjecture.)

Well the reasoning is to have CP3 play with the Big 3 this season. This might be the last All Star Caliber season for one of them. CP3 would be better then Rondo.

Also I hate the idea of Rondo AND CP3 on the same team. Why not trade for CP3 straight up - which is feasible in this Bucher scenario - and then use that money on trying to get Dwight Howard instead of CP3 (who we already have)?

I mean no one can recruit D12 better then Paul in my opinion. And I think Howard wants to play with him.

I just have to laugh and laugh and laugh.  The one strong piece we have for the future and that's the one you all are dying to trade.

Oh yeah, plus our only reliable Big, healthwise.  Y'all want to trade his *** too.

It's like some kind of madness.

As for Howard, he may be pals with CP30, but we've got a good chance to attract him with the BEST PASSING GUARD IN BASKETBALL, if we keep Rondo.  But hell, why would that interest Dwight Howard?  After watching Rondo and Shaq carve the league up for a month, Shaq being one step out of retirement, why the hell would Howard even think for one moment about wanting to be on the same team with Rondo?

But hey, folks, I understand.  In a universe where Danny Ainge's insane Trade is considered to be genius basketball IQ stuff, any crazy **** can be passed off as gold.  So yeah, let's trade off our best piece for the future.   That's a no brainer for sure.

you bring up a good point paul.  rondo passing to shaq while healthy was one big underrated fact that few people consider when trading him.  cp3's health is definitely a concern though.  what's the point of having a top 5 talent when you can't use him in a game?  for show?  yeah right.  I'd love to get gerald wallace to pair up with rondo.  defensive-athleticism i think is key.

If you had both CP3 and RR on the same roster, you have an $11m backup point guard; why would you want that?  Not only would RR object to not getting minutes, but from the team perspective you would put the money towards a starter or bench players that would actually get significant minutes.

I can't believe there are actually Celtics fans who would not trade Rondo for CP3.

Bucher really doesnt give enough options for me to buy the whole Boston = best fit for CP3 thing. He's just trying to stir up some media talk while there is nothing else going on to talk about.
