The Detroit Pistons have chosen Lawrence Frank to be their new head coach, according to sources with knowledge of the team's thinking.

The Pistons have selected Frank over former Detroit assistant Mike Woodson, with sources telling ESPN.com that the decision signals the growing influence in the organization of former New York Knicks executive Dave Checketts.

Looks like we're breeding NBA head coaches. I wonder who's going to be next.

The Celtics assistant coach position is weirdly reminding me of the Defense Against the Dark Arts job at Hogwarts.

Well, it looks like Doc will have some time to figure out Frank's replacement.  I wonder what his mind frame is about his next assistant.  I'll have to research the potential canidates available.  As of right now, I can't think of anyone in particular that I would want as the lead assistant.

Good for Frank. I'm also glad that he got a HC job and didn't bounce for NYK as an assistant in waiting. That'd tick me off.

Congrats to Lawrence.  Was really hoping he would stay here.  Oh well... time to get another top notch assistant.

I am intrigued by the mention of Bill Laimbeer as a possible replacement since he was one of my favorite non-Celtics of his era and he won a title in three out of his seven years as a head coach in the WNBA.

what about larry brown to replace him.

http://www.emptythebench.com/2009/12/21/larry-brown-has-fill-in-teams-name-playing-some-good-defense/

I like this idea. And I can imagine him taking a "behind-the-scenes" approach as an assistant coach (less responsibility). Also, he and Doc are good friends. And he's a defensive specialist. And it almost happened before.

Sounds good to me.

The reality, however, is that Bill Laimbeer is one of the most hated players in Celtics' opponents history. Personally, I would never want to see him on the Celtics' bench ... too many memories of dirty plays landed on Larry, Kevin, and Robert. ;)
