  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
Some Assumptions I'm making:

1) I finished with the 2nd overall seed in the Western Conference, behind only the LeBron-led Kings. Either my important guys managed only a few minor injuries as a whole and I ended up with a 56 to 58 win season, or, and the Kings rocked out one of the better regular season records of the last decade, and even though my guys didn't miss an ounce of playing time, their 62 wins were not enough to surpass the Kings. Either way, my guys health should be beyond reproach. Likewise, Tyson Chandler for the Kings must not have had a lackluster followup to his stellar '11 season, etc...(same goes for Tim Duncan, KG and Pierce (hey, they were a 4 seed last year, and relatively healthy)....

2) Evan Turner, Brook Lopez, Ricky Rubio, and somehow Blake Griffin did not take large steps forward last season, and that is really disappointing. Especially in Cleveland's case, because if Griffin took a tiny step forward and Rubio was at the very least servicable, Cleveland was a playoff team, a 5th or 6th seed at the very least. They're my "I can't believe they didn't slide in" team this year.

Next year, we should do an 8/9 and 7/10 play-in game in each conference. ;)

I don't know.

I think the final standing were pretty close with what I thought would happen. I had the top 6 teams in the east and 7 of the 8 teams in the West.

I think the bottom 2 teams in the East was a tossup. Could have come from any one of four team. I was surprised Phoenix fell to 8th but really I think the West was a 10 team race with the teams that made it and OKC and Cleveland. That Southwest division was a dang close division I had Memphis lower and not making it with Cleveland but I can see where they made it and Cleveland and OKC didn't. Two teams from that division weren't going to make it and that division was so so very close I could see where any 2 of the 4 could be argued as being in while the other 2 were out.

The GMs of the draft did themselves a grave disservice by voting out the Pandas.  The entertainment value on here just took a nose dive. ;)

okc snubbed on selection sunday

this really surprises me. people state a lbj team would make the playoffs no matter the supporting cast.  i would say the same thing about a kobe team, no matter his age.

Because we have seen Kobe with Odom and Butler just sneak into the playoffs

While Lebron carried that Cavs team (with no talent at Odom's level) to the best record in the NBA.

say what u will, but i would never bet against a kobe team. lbj teams have been in the east when the east was weak. "sneaking" into the western conf playoffs would translate to a mid to high seed in the east.

kobe is a top 5 player in the league, talent-wise.  killer instinct-wise....i put him at number 1.

I don't think that this is the case in this 24 team draft. A lot more talent per team.

I don't think one superstar is enough in this 24 team fantasy league to guarantee a place in the playoffs.

-----------------------------------------

That said, I did think OKC was under-valued in the voting.

A top five PG in Rondo. The second best SG in the league in Kobe Bryant. A strong sixth man in Mo Williams. A load of defensive talent with Artest, Ty Thomas and Dalembert joining what is arguably the best defensive backcourt in the league. A lot to like on that team.

Agree with your OKC evaluation.  I wanted to put them higher, but I just kept asking myself, who would they beat?  I want to say I had them around 9th in my rankings.  The West just ended up being stacked.

I'd disagree here.  Odom had a great year as a 6th man this year.  Four years ago, he was not all that great as a starting 4 for those Lakers.  I'd argue he was not much better than Antawn Jamison was on the Cavs.
