Jazz Sends: Richard Jefferson and DeMarcus Cousins
Atlanta Sends: Al Jefferson and Caron Butler.
Nice move for Utah. Big Al gives them one heck of a sixth man to play behind S.Dalembert.

Three very different types of big men with R.Lewis, Sammy and Big Al too. They can dictate matchups / style of play. Play a power game with Sammy and Al. An offensive lineup with Big Al and Shard. A defensive lineup with Shard and Al. Interesting combos.

Wow, Caron Butler too. I liked how RJ complemented Melo more than I do Butler but it'll work out just fine + Caron is the more talented player at this juncture of their (RJ, Caron) respective careers so on individual basis there is another upgrade there.

This must surely push Utah up into bona-fide contender status.

Edit: Wrong team, got mixed up between OKC and Utah.

Pawnee Pacers send Aaron Brooks, 12.11
Cleveland Cavaliers send Channing Frye

Excellent acquisition - there were quite a few teams I was hoping A.Brooks would end up on. I think the Cavs were the top of that list.

A potential difference making explosive scoring PG off the bench.
Difference maker -- A.Brooks is a great get for your team.

The West just keeps getting stronger and stronger.

Trade Announced:

Pawnee Pacers send Aaron Brooks, 12.11
Cleveland Cavaliers send Channing Frye

Negative TP's to both teams for making me update the board.

THAT WAS THE BIG ONE, FOLKS

Well his stock has never been lower, but he's nothing if not a change of pace from Ricky Rubio. I give it my stamp of approval.

Dividends! Pawnee wins this trade handily if framed as a 6th round pick for an 8th and 12th. But the deal made sense to our front office from a personnel stand point. Brooks was the 63rd pick last year. He's only one season removed from 19.6 points and 5.3 assists, a season in which he was just the sixth player in league history to tally at least 200 three pointers and 400 assists.

That may have been an epic hot streak, but regardless Brooks is better than he showed last year, he was clearly shaken - by Houston's unwillingness to extend his contract, a chronic ankle sprain, and a deadline deal to Phoenix. Also, ask Mike Conley if he enjoyed having Kyle Lowry back him up.

Yeah, Utah kicked a little butt here, and it really helped that they picked up maybe the last true worker of anything that really resembles the 'torture chamber' in the NBA, because IIRC, the one real skill Dalembert had on offense was that he could hit a 9footer baseline shot. Big Al should be able to work.

You'd ideally like one of the guys down low on a Melo team to be a well above average passer for the position, but this is far from a weakness that negates the gain. Plus Caron Butler? Big upgrade in my mind over RJ, but I'm drinking the "Richard jefferson sucks now on defense" kool-aid.

Also, ask Mike Conley how much he liked having Kyle Lowry as a backup.

It would be like Roth backing up Hagar.

I think you got your teams a little mixed up. Look at the sig below and you will see Utah's present team.

Kyle Lowry rattling starting point guards since 2006.

I like RJ on defense. Not a stopper but a somewhat above average defender at his position (SF) and can defend SGs well (unlike C.Butler) which I thought was useful with Carmelo Anthony on the roster.

He can't rebound worth a [dang] anymore though. Fifth straight season of disgraceful rebounding numbers for a player at his position.

Oh sorry, that was my fault. Sorry about that.

Who was I thinking of? Aw, Oklahoma. Okay.

Hang on a moment and let me re-think this deal then.

On an individual talent basis, everything holds true, still a big win.

How are you planning on using Caron Butler?

Gives Rajon more room to operate.

Utah Jazz  GM: Kane3387  Coach: Larry Brown

PG - Andre Miller, Jamal Crawford
SG - Raja Bell, Nick Young
SF - Paul Pierce, Caron Butler
PF - Pau Gasol
C  - Brendan Haywood, Big Al

Wow, that is a lot of shot-creators and prolific scorers off the bench. Four guys capable of going for 20ppg in starter's minutes. In addition to Pierce and Pau. Six guys total.

Pau and Big Al represent two of the most skilled post scorers in the league. Gives you a hell of a threat on the interior offensively. Can keep one of them on the floor at all times.

Wow.

That's actually true. RJ used to be known to slash more than a B-Horror movie in the 80's but now he's got that respectable bomb hangin around.

I've down on Butler. He deserves more blame than he gets for those awful Wizards teams. He's become a ball stopper who over dribbles and forces the issue. And then in Dallas there were far too many nights where he shot the ball more than Nowitzki. His effeciency, rebounding rate and assist numbers have declined while his usage rate has increased.

He badly needs to begin playing within himself again.
