Trade Announced:

NYK trades Tyreke Evans, Andrei Kirilenko, John Salmons

MIL trades Deron Williams

So, MIL goes from a Deron-Monta backcourt to a Tyreke-Monta backcourt?

Horrible combo in the backcourt.

Well here's a question then...who is Monta Ellis's ideal backcourt partner?

They've got to be big enough to play opposing 2 guards.

They've got to be smart enough and skilled enough to facilitate the offense

They've got to be a strong enough shooter to knockdown open shots, and be a decent catch and shoot guy for when Monta deigns to pass them the ball.

They can't be too passive, because Monta will just dictate the game.

They can't need the ball too much because Monta won't be able to score as much.

Jason Kidd maybe? I mean it seems like a lose-lose the way we're portraying Monta Ellis. Its like everyone agrees Monta Ellis can score, everyone agrees he's a dynamic athletic wonder and quick as lightening, and everyone agrees they don't like him because he's too selfish/immature/inefficient (all three or take your pick, depending on who is talking).

Chauncey Billups circa 2005.

I was thinking of this earlier on the commute home.

I immediately thought of Kirk Hinrich.

Monta Ellis = scoring PG

He is best used in an offense that limits the responsibility of the PG to run the offense.

Jason kidd, Kirk hinrich, Joe Johnson, and I liked deron Williams to an extent but that's the issue bc A lot like iverson he's hard to pair with.

Monta Ellis = scoring PG

He is best used in an offense that limits the responsibility of the PG to run the offense.

Sure, the same can be said for Kobe Bryant.

But Kobe can lead a team to a 60-win season. Could Monta? Of course not...if he's the primary scorer anyways.

But can Monta Ellis not be the primary scorer if he's playing 30 minutes a night? No, not unless you kept the ball out of his hands.

Could Monta Ellis come off the bench for 20-25 minutes a nights? Probably not, you'd just get a sulky and inefficient 15 points a game and a terrible +/- rating.

So the question remains; what role could Monta play on a contender?

Off-Guard for a team with at least one solid post presence?

The idea to start the offense from the inside, and then kick it out to Monta if nothings cooking.
