First of all yes I know a lockout is going on so players cannot talk to our management but maybe there is something to this with him visiting Boston?

Or maybe I'm just making to much of this and he's just coming here for vacation.

Boston, what's up!?

There's also an article posted today from ESPNBoston suggesting the C's go after Jordan.

But here's one unsolicited recommendation: Make a run at DeAndre Jordan.

The Clippers extended a $1.1 million qualifying offer last month to Jordan, the 6-11 center who started 66 games a year ago while averaging 7.1 points and 7.2 rebounds per contest. Jordan is in line for a nice raise and might just get it. Could Boston give it to him? If the next CBA afford the Celtics the assets to pursue, is it not worth spending, say, that mid-level money on a 22-year-old gushing with upside rather than the twilight types they've attracted the last two years (O'Neal, Rasheed Wallace)?

It might come down to market value. So what's a player like Jordan's value on the open market? A lot of that will depend on where the salary cap lands in the next CBA, but it's fair to assume it's far more than his qualifying offer.

For the sake of argument, say the mid-level exception sticks around and remains splittable, and the Celtics make a 3-year, $12 million offer. At the onset of free agency, the team can still explore minimum contracts, it can ink rookie deals, and it can still negotiate with its own free agents like Glen Davis. All this while taking a swing at Jordan, whose athleticism would be an enticing addition alongside Boston's Big Four.

Wouldn't mind it happening,  but I don't believe it's going to.

You said it yourself, the league is shut down at the moment due to the CBA conflicts.

He's just visiting Boston for unrelated reasons.

I don't usually hear of Boston as a popular vaction spot for players even in the summer though.  Even though I believe that is the case.

Well I mean I guess he could be coming to check out the city and see if he could see himself playing here in the future.  But its all speculation

He's a restricted FA, we're not going to sign him away from LA with a smart contract offer. We'd have to overpay, unless the CBA rules change more than I anticipate.

I'm not a huge fan of his game anyways, he's way to similar to McGee in that he doesn't play with any basketball smarts.

Complete speculation on my part.

Honestly, I would be kind of surprised if Rondo and KG are even in the Boston area right now.

Speculation aside, I'd be shocked if the Clippers declined to match a mid-level deal (if the MLE still exists in the next CBA).

Yeah...well, I wouldn't put anything past the Clippers, but overall I agree.

On the other hand, Jordan is still a pretty big bust risk at the full MLE.  He had a nice game against the C's, but he still has a long way to go before he is even an MLE quality player.  Based on how things have gone with big men in the past, I agree that he will get that kind of money, purely on "potential", but you never know what could happen with the new CBA.

More likely though, I think there are two plausible ways the Clippers could let him go.

1. They sign/trade for a better Center (depending on the new CBA, they could have cap space this summer), such as Dwight Howard, or more likely Chandler or Nene, and let him walk.

2. They fall in love with Jeff Green, and work out a sign and trade of Jordan for Green, with the hope that they can use cap space in 2012 (or trade at the deadline) for Dwight Howard.

I'm not saying we should sign him for the MLE but I remember a while ago JO having a real good game against us when he was on the Blazers and was probably 2 years into the league or something. Same thing with Ben Wallace.

It's probably not a good idea to fall in love with guys who do well against us but those 2 guys I specifically remember wanting on our team and then thy turned into stars.

One problem though is that at the time we probably could have got either of them for cheaper than Jordan

Isn't "gushing with upside" sports commentator code for a pretty average player? If so I agree. Hopefully its just a vacation.

I can't for anything see Howard signing with the Clippers.
