I thought it was the pick we got from Cleveland for Jiri Welsh...
No, as pointed out we bought him from Phoenix who were then selling picks left and right. Though I had no idea this was originally LA's pick that we briefly owned before shipping out to ATL.

No, I mean we traded the Cleveland pick to Phoenix for the pick that we used to take Rondo.  We did not get that Rondo pick for just taking on Grant's contract, we also had to send them a future first round pick, which I believe was the first rounder we swindled Cleveland for.

Alton Lister's stint with the Celts at the end of his career comes to mind.  It was an awful team, but Alton was still busting his hump out there.  Always admired him for that.

There were a bunch of guys in the ML years...Brett Szabo, Blue Edwards (aka - the scoring threat  :D ).

Going back a ways...Akim Abdul Aziz, Thomas Hamilton, Jeff Judkins, and the mercurial Conner Henry.

If we're counting preseason rosters I'd have to add Sasha Danilovic and of course Kevin Pittsnogle

btw - the Greg Kite photo is awesome!
Yup

  • Another undersized Celtic...
did anyone mention Kevin Pritchard? He was a PG for us for a season or two in "the dark ages" before becoming the GM for the Trailblazers??

Don't knock "The General" Sherman Douglas--he perfected the NBA alley-oop as we know it.

Other names I'm sure were mentioned:

Joe Kleine
Eddie Pinckney
Jon Bagley
Vin Baker
Pervis Ellison

Zan Tabak....big foreign guy, i believe we acquired him from Toronto in the mid 90's in the Kenny 'Screw Toronto Im not getting on this airplane' Anderson trade.

Also, a bit of a wild card here.  Anyone remember a guy named Lenny Cooke??  He was Carmelo Anthonys rival in high school I believe, but wasnt academically eligible to play or something his senior year so he never got drafted.  ESPN made a story out of it and he got invited to play for the Celtics in the summer league.

I posted a lot on the espn boards back then and people were throwing a huge party about it.

Does Sweetney count?  The first second I saw him step onto the court I thought, "Wow, that slob can't score or rebound anymore and will foul out in two seconds."  Turned out he surprised everyone and actually ended up scoring on a respectable percentage of post-ups.  Talk about random.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

Bruno Sundov - He averaged like 10 + points one preseason. I got excited at a 7 footer who can shoot. But then again, it was Preseason.
I was gonna say!  He could hit that 3-ball and that's all he ever tried to do when he got in a game, which of course, was why he never amounted to anything.

Kelvin Upshaw-I remember his speed and thought he would be something real good.

Jerry Sitching- I remember looking at him and wondering how could he possibly play in the NBA

Scot Pollard - Him screaming a practice in Italy in the 2007-08 training camp.

Alaa Abdelnaby -Thought he would be much better with his post up moves but his name more than anything sticks out.

Brandon Wallace - I remember watching him hoping (with other celtics bloggers) he would be our answer at backup small forward.

One big "what the heck?" Celtic was David Wesley.  When I saw him, I wondered what we were doing trotting out a too short, too thick (heavy) guard.

Unlike a lot of "momentary Celtics" in this category, Wesley was a baller.  He busted his butt and became one of my all-time favorite C's.  Hated it when he went to Charlotte, I think he was exposed in the expansion draft.  Coming from the CBA and without a true guard physique, he was truly an unlikely hero. He often made an unwatchable C's product bearable.

For a time (a rough time), Alaa was our most legit post up scorer.  I appreciated his effort given how little help he had.
