I thought it was the pick we got from Cleveland for Jiri Welsh...
No, as pointed out we bought him from Phoenix who were then selling picks left and right. Though I had no idea this was originally LA's pick that we briefly owned before shipping out to ATL.

[quote A lot of the same guys others have mentioned but I just thought of this one:

Danny Fortson

Don't remember too many specifics. Just that he was very very wide and didn't really seem to care about winning

Man Fortson is another one of those tease guys he was such a great rebounder but could never get his game together. I remember being excited about getting him, Stith, Todd Day I thought was going to be a stud when we got him..Popeye Jones......Xavier McDaniel...Eric Montross, so many I thought would be awesome and didnt really pan out...
A winner is someone who recognizes his God-given talents, works his tail off to develop them into skills, and uses these skills to accomplish his goals.

Anyone else remember the game Fortson fumbled a rebound and it bounced into the opponent's (forget the team) hoop?

I really liked Orien Greene.  I play PG so am a bit obsessed with watching and analyzing point guards.  I kind of knew that Marcus Banks would never pan out and I really liked something about Orien Greene (plus we had almost zero other viable options at that position that year).  He seemed to understand the game well for a rookie, had good height, and didn't take a lot of shots.  Had no idea he played 3 games for the Nets this past season.

I remember a guy named Mark Blount who made a name for himself as an athletic, energy guy, who played aggressive defense, and despite his questionable hands, hit the boards hard.  In fact, he was actually on the team two separate times.

Then, they let him go, and signed some stiff with the same name for a big MLE contract, but he never showed any of the heart and drive the old guy had.

I'd be remiss if we left out Glen McDonald, the star of the 3rd OT of Game 5 of the 1976 Finals after John Havlicek fouled out.

I remember Terry Duerod back around 1981.

And why has nobody ever mentioned Hank Finkel, come on people. What is the matter with you?

I live for this thread in the summer. I just pray that it doesn't reappear in January, 2012.

How about Sebastian Telfair...

I remember going to opening night against the Hornets in the '06-'07 season during the "Let's make Tony Allen a point guard experiment".  During one possession in the second half, Chris Paul picked up Delonte West full court after a dead ball.  Delonte could not free himself of CP3 so the inbounder had to call a timeout to avoid a turnover.  Doc brought Tony Allen in the game to run point.  Tony caught the ball, but literally couldn't dribble by CP3.  He got to a point where he picked up his dribble, still in the backcourt, and had to call a timeout to avoid an 8-sec violation.  Chris Paul single-handedly forced Boston to waste two timeouts in one possession.

I was going crazy that we were trying to turn these two guys (Delonte and Tony) into point guards when I knew that neither of them could ever be a starting point guard in the league.  And I knew that we had one true point guard sitting on the bench the whole while.  The young point guard I just knew was going to turn this whole franchise around.

And that point guard I'm talking about who was on the bench was Rajon Rondo Sebastian Telfair.  Yup, that's what I thought.  Some other point guard from Kentucky was on the bench too.

Anybody remember Stoijko Vrankovic?

10 years from now, we'll be having a thread like this about Chris Johnson or Lester Hudson.

yeah, the tall guys always stick out for obvious reasons - Stoijko and Bruno Sundov are two more that I will always remember

Won't forget about Semih either.....unless we have trouble distinguishing him from Krstic in 10 years

Kevin Gamble. Small ears, good jumper. If only because he rocked the #34 jersey prior to PP.
