Really....people would prefer troy murphy over bbd?!?!
C'mon! Yes people prefer Troy Murphy over Fat Baby. Is that shocking? Murphy was a double double machine for most of his career. When he arrived to Boston, Murphy was out of basketball shape. And its not because he ate himself out of shape a la Fat Baby; Troy Hardly played in New Jersey. Coach Avery Johnson went with his young guys. Its difficult to stay in Basketball Shape without playing any actual NBA games remember Stephon Marbury.
so u want murphy bc of what he has done over his career, even though he is washed up?! u clearly dont like bbd, which i get....but i take bbd over murphy for the 2011-2012 season everyday and twice on sunday.
say what u want about bbd's physique, but he is extremely durable, rotates unbelievably defensively away from the ball (most to take charges), and he is deceptively quick on the block. he also has a decent enough outside shot (i prefer him on the block, then taking the occasional jumper to keep the defense honest).
what can murphy do at this stage of his career....grab a rebound or two, get beat defensively, get hurt, and keep the bench warm. easy pass.
bbd > murph, imo
But what if it comes down to cost.
Would you give him a three-year MLE deal when Murphy may be had for the vet min or LLE?
And BBD is awful in the post. I've never seen a player get stuffed so much. He's short and slow. His bread-and-butter is the open 15-footer, but he thinks he can live beyond 18, which he definitely cannot.
Although he can make that midrange shot, unless he is actually taking and making it, he is hurting the offense. He isn't taking his man out of the paint for spacing, and he isn't in great position for rebounds. He isn't an exceptional pick-setter, so his pick-and-pop game is mediocre.
His value is overrated IMO. Our system made him look better than he is. Obviously nobody valued him all that much the last time he was a FA, and I doubt that changes much this time around.
I'd take him on the cheap for 1-2 years (basically same deal as last time), otherwise good luck elsewhere Glen.
Honestly, if he thinks he's going to get the full MLE and a starting spot somewhere, he must be hanging out with
Josh Howard and Ricky Williams Charlie Sheen.
