I tend to think in GBBD as a "forced" rotational player in a perennial contener.

That hit a game winning shot in the playoffs, and was arguably the biggest part of 2 playoff wins last year?

I can't think of another team outside of (arguably) Memphis that couldn't use his services at roughly 10 minutes a game.

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
glen davis is a capable 3rd big on a championship team, as long as you have the proper accessories...like a defensively stalwart high iq 6'10ish pf/c

I think we're more of less on the same page.

I've said it countless amount of times, but I can't think of a more aggravating, yet serviceable player. As much as he drives us all insane -moreso than anyone else on the entire team- he definitely has value.

How about a sign and trade for Robin Lopez.  The Suns already have Gortat and Frye and no real starting power forward to speak of.

they just drafted markieff morris. Im sure morris will become the starter over there. they have a good combo with morris, frye and warrick. I doubt they would be interested.

Yea no offense to the OP, but this is just another BBD flame topic. It doesn't matter that you hate BBD, or that you don't even want him re-signed, but not worth more than the minimum contract? To call this topic unfair would be an enormous understatement.

I think he is worth more than the minimum contract.  I don't think he is worthy of a raise.  I didn't start this topic because I hate BBD, I started it because I am tired of morons who post delusional Big Baby sign-and-trade scenarios without explaining why the other team would a) want Davis and b) want him at the suggested contract size.  Too many idiots pick a player they want and then suggest a S&T, when a realistic S&T scenario should involve picking a team that you think would want Davis, then looking at their roster for a player you might be able to get in return.

Maybe I am in the minority here with Roy and a few others but I think Baby is a very good rotational bench player who will have the opportunity to sign a 3 year $10-$12 million contract with someone(contract would probably have provisions regarding weight).

My guess as to who is Portland.

Right now Portland still considers themselves a playoff contender, especially if they can get a decently healthy season out of Brandon Roy. They currently have signed to guaranteed contracts the following players in their front court:

Marcus Camby and LaMarcus Aldridge and......that's it.

Yes they have non-guaranteed contracts for Earl Barron and Chris Johnson but we all know Portland will not be looking to be giving them playoff minutes. Portland was hot after Kenneth Faried in the draft, an undersized energy guy at PF that would give them defense and rebounding. If they aren't adverse to drafting an undersized energy guy PF then I have to believe they would have no problem signing one that is proven to be able to score in the NBA, come up big in the playoffs(he has 2 of the last 3 years) and has championship experience.

Baby could play with either Aldridge or Camby in the front court and would fit that team well. Charlotte appears another team that he would fit well with as does Indiana, New Orleans(especially if they lose Carl Landry), and the Clippers(if they don't bring back Craig Smith.

How about SnT to the Kings for Jason Thompson?

The argument:  Glen Davis finished 4th in the Sixth Man of the Year voting.  He slumped late in the year and into the playoffs, which in part was due to playing through pain; he battled tendinitis in his knee for most of the latter part of the season, but didn't take a rest until absolutely necessary due to team needs.

His 11.7 points and 5.4 rebounds per game are very respectable minutes, as are his 14.3 points and 6.7 rebounds per 36 minutes.  In fact, only 50 players in the NBA averaged at least 14.3 points and 6.7 rebounds per 36 minutes, and 44.8% FG%.

In addition, he's got championship experience, and has had big moments in playoff games.  He hustles on the court, and is versatile enough to play both inside and outside.  A guy like that is definitely a top-10 player in most team's rotation's, and is worth more than a minimum contract.

I absolutely agree. My biggest problem with Big Baby is actually the tendinitis, that could be a recurring issue, especially since he puts a lot of weight and a lot of power on those knees. Hopefully he will be alright, but I wouldn't give him a long term deal.

Others have pointed out, that his role within the team changed, when Jeff Green came as a 6th man and a scorer, and that this was a problem for him. I don't think so. Big Baby has played plenty with Paul Pierce to play within that role.

I do believe, however, that his shot selection became worse, because of all the changes in the 2nd unit. In the end, he was the only bench player getting significant minutes all season long. And somehow everybody started giving the ball to him as the shot clock went down. You could say, that he took it upon himself, but he was also forced to take those shots. This should be helped by having a new tight 2nd unit playing together all season. So if this is the biggest problem with Big Baby, I believe that it will be solved.

that might work. but we have JJ and our gap is at center.
davis for dalembert is a reach though, because we dont know what the cba is going to be. also dalembert will have to be willing to sign a one year deal. Its a long shot

I don't really get the notion that people are scapegoating Glen Davis.  Sorry.

Is he not a black hole on offense?  Is he even an average rebounder for his position?  Does he not have foot in the mouth disease?  Has he not had just as many stupid moments as great ones during his time in Boston?  Does he not want more money and a larger role then he is worth?
