Asssume for this exercise the $MLE value will be same at $5.765 million for the upcoming year after the CBA is worked out. This is the amount BBD would need to accept in signing with most teams, unless he gets more through a sign and trade, he's stuck there unless he catches a team under the cap. Even then, the Cs have his Bird rights.

So, if you were Danny, who would you take in the "same" salary, considering the salary would take a good a bite into the salary cap space for next year? If so, who would be a quality value you would want to bring in here? Dalembert, Nick Young Caron Butler, JR Smith....then use the MLE on ???

Thoughts?

If the new CBA also includes the same base year compensation rules, you can't S&T Davis at that salary level unless the Celtics send out additional salary.

  • We may as well put Tyrion in at center.

If we could, I'd easily want Caron Butler. He'd be the absolute perfect 6th man for the Truth and Ray. It's unlikely that will happen, though.
I like Marcus Smart

Any solid player who could crack our rotation and make an impact in an area where we currently lack.  Anybody.

Not sure if he's really worth that right now, though.  Any team that really wants him can just sign him outright for what he's worth.  New CBA will probably eliminate MLE and S+T's anyway -- though honestly BBD isn't worth the MLE, let alone above it.

A better rebounder and ball mover.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

Is BBD an unrestricted or restricted FA?

He's unrestricted.

This feels like a stupid topic unless you can convince me that another team wants Davis at that salary.

Maybe to Indiana for Brandon Rush.  They have a trade exception which could make the numbers work and Rush is a 1 year contract guy.

I'd love OJ Mayo for him, but I doubt that is very realistic.

I think the better question is who would any team sign and trade for BBD.

I have a suspicion Baby is going to be yet again disappointed in contract offers, especially post new CBA.

if he's unrestricted, then why does S&T make any sense?  (unless they're getting rid of a contract/player they don't want, in which case, we probably don't want to be involved in that)

Any Center

Brad Miller (or even Darko?)

I hear Kahn wants to corner the market on PFs in Minny.
