Who would you sign and trade BBD for?

I assume BBD will sign with another team for ~ $3.5M/year for 3 years.  If he resigns with the Cs, it will be on a similar deal (maybe slight more money) but with a team option in year #2.

if he's unrestricted, then why does S&T make any sense?  (unless they're getting rid of a contract/player they don't want, in which case, we probably don't want to be involved in that)

I belive a sign and trade, since it has to be for "equal" value (125% +$100K or he has to go via a base year compensation 50% of the actual amount he gets in the first year?) , but in either case it offers little or at least a reduced amount cap impact, VS using the MLE. This also then reserves the team's MLE for another signing. Obviously it would need to be a player we want, and there are teams with decent players who are in an overstocked position on a particular team, which could make them available (see Caron Butler, Dahntay Jones).

We have his Bird Rights so we can match any offer and then trade him so we at least get some value for him. Considering DAvis is the "Best Buy" in free agancy http://espn.go.com/blog/boston/celtics/post/_/id/4685258/davis-a-best-buy-in-free-agency.

If this value turns out to be true and he finds a team willing to pay more than the MLE, for all those teams who do not have enough cap speace to sign him, their only solution is for Boston to sign him to the agreed amount then trade him there

Wow I like this idea.  I'd definitely be excited if this happened.  However, I still think we'd need another Center for the bench who is younger and more reliable to stay healthy.  Someone has to eat up those minutes.

I like Brad Miller too, but I thought he was out with a knee injury, so I don't know this works?

I realize Davis has worn out his welcome with most Boston fans, but the guy was a candidate for 6th man of the year for most of this season.  He was also the main man off the bench during our '09 playoff run.  I think he may garner more than the MLE from some desperate team.  If he does maybe we could do a sign and trade and get a big body (like Brad Miller) plus a draft pick in return.

Well, I would first try to convince him to resign on a 1 year deal.  However, if he is deadset on a long-term deal (and can find a taker) or just wants to leave the C's, I would take whatever I could get for him, on a 1 year contract.  Can't take any bad deals for him, but if you can turn him into even a useless player on an expiring contract, that can be used to match salaries on a guy who can help the team.

The C's are very short on assets at the moment, and have a difficult task to compete this year without compromising cap space going forward.  So, they are going to need as many movable pieces as possible.

I know he's a talented player.  I know he's an asset when his head's on straight.  I know he's the easiest guy for us to re-sign to fill the hole in the frontcourt.

I also know who Doc Rivers was referring to when he talked about the team losing Ubunto.

I also know what Danny Ainge meant when he said that Davis may have had different motivations than the rest of the team this past year. 

This is just one of those times where I would hate to be a GM.  You know if they had their druthers, Davis would be long gone.  But they also know they have 1 more year left in their window, and if Davis can help them win more than the other options, they have to hold their nose and do it (I think there was a similar situation with Sheed).

Oh, dear God, I was JOKING!!!  I don't think it is a good idea at all to acquire an aging center coming off microfracture surgery on his knee who is supposed to be out until at least December/January.  Of course, it's not like he has any athleticism to lose, so maybe he will recover relatively quickly.

Ainge should spend more time looking for the next Brad Miller, by which I mean an undrafted player who will go on to become an All-Star.

I really don't think an S&T with Davis is going to happen. If he's gone, he's just gone. If he's back, he's back on a short/low contract.
