I actually don't know much about JaJuan Johnson.  However, I looked him up on Youtube and he reminds me a lot of a young Marcus Camby.  Their body types are very similar.  Like Camby, JJ looks like he can block shots from the weak side and hit the outside jumper.  When Camby was younger, he used to be able to put the ball on the floor and take it to the hoop or finish lobs at the basket. Camby is more of a center now, but when he first came in the league, he had a SF skill set and could fly up the court. It would be great if JJ could develop into a Camby type player (double-double machine and 2-3 blocks/per game) down the line.

What do you think?

I don't see it, other than both are long skinny guys. Camby was just a bigger impact player, and played even longer than he was.

I think that's a very good comparison, people need to stop comparing him to KG , that is much to much to expect from him. If he can have a Marcus Camby type impact I will be very happy. I can definitely see the potential to be a starter and a very good defender, shot blocker making some all defensive teams at his full potential while averaging 15 and 8rpg, 2blk

I don't think he dominated the glass as much as Camby did.

I hope he plays better team defense than Camby ever did though, Camby was way to into how many blocks he could get.

Hope so.  :) But a fairer comparison is Taj Gibson. A young active big who blocks shots, hit the occasional 18footer, gets extra rebounds, and finishes inside.

this is more reasonable...and hopefully accurate. gibson is a very nice young player.

The camby comparison is pretty interesting - especially if you compare him to a young camby.

Young Camby was an impact player as a tall skinny energy guy. He ran, helped on weak side defense, and hit jump shots.

I never thought young Camby would ever bulk up.

edit: also, young Camby was just OK as a rebounder. It wasn't until he hit his mid to late 20's that he started bulking up and turned into a rebounding machine.

Well first off, highlight films always make the player look like the second comming of MJ.

I will say I think the one thing I saw that impressed me was the way he busted it down the court after a block or scoring. He didn't seem to spend time admiring his work. I like that.

It took Camby into his 5th year in the NBA to average more than 7.8 RBs per game, though 2 of his 3 highest-scoring years came in that time.  So I could see JJ coming in a little like that--being able to score (especially off of Rondo's lobs) right off and taking time to become a better rebounder.

He does come in closer to Gibson's height (1/2 inch taller) than Camby's (2 inches shorter), however.

Interesting comparison.  I wrote on here like 2 months ago that I really hoped Danny would take JJ, but never thought it would happen based on where he was projected and being used to Patriots drafts where there are corners I desperately want year after year that BB never takes.

That being said, I think both comparisons are accurate, as I wrote on here before I think he is a cross between Camby and Gibson.  Camby's style of play, and Gibson's talent level.  He PLAYS more similar to Camby but his IMPACT is more similar to Gibson.  The style of play is not really similar to Taj at all who is very physical.  Also, I wouldn't worry too much about the rebounding and whether or not he will be a good team defender.  He actually did pull down 8 or so boards (not going to look up the exact number) and played on the best defensive team in the country (Purdue) so I like the fact that team defense has already been ingrained in him.  He should be able to contribute immediately.

The thing I love about him is that he runs the floor hard. Watch after all his blocks he is taking off towards the other end and Rondo will find him a lot like that. I think we got a nice player at 25 and he said he favorite player was KG and now KG can teach him a lot on how to play the game at this level. I do think we got a steal this late in the draft.

If we had a time machine and Camby came out of UMass this year instead of in the 90s, he would hands down have been the first overall pick.  His career has backed up the fact that he was drafted #2 overall in one of the deepest drafts of all time.  Keep in mind he went before Kobe, Ray Allen, Nash and old favorite Antoine Walker.

Johnson is no Camby but if we're lucky he'll crack the rotation this year as a backup.
