Either trade him with our trade exception for an expiring big or let him play overseas for a year before signing him. We should've traded Johnson for an early 2nd, maybe it's still possible to do so, he's going to add to our cap and make it harder to get a max FA.

He adds like 1.5 mil, which is nothing compared to the 30 something mil coming off the books next summer and we weren't going to be able to sign one this summer.

Also, you have to sign him. Guaranteed deal is part of being a first round pick.

But Rubio stayed overseas for 2 years and wasn't signed by minnesota, I don't see the reason to add him on 2012 since rondo, pierce, bradley that's 28 million, we would reach 30 with johnson and if green get's a 7-8 million then you won't have much room for a max FA. We should just trade him or let him go overseas.

That's because Rubio had a contract with a team overseas before he was drafted and the Wolves had to wait until his team agreed to a buyout. Johnson has no such deal.

Also remember that with a new CBA if the salary cap drops so does how much a player would get paid for a "max contract" and if it goes up to the rumored 62 million then we have plenty of room.

This might actually be the most ridiculous piece of armchair GMing I have seen on this forum.

Or it could be someone who just didn't know some of the finer details.

Forget the max contract idea, this team needs bodies on its roster.  Our rotation can definitely be improved and Johnson should help address that.

Exactly.  Not only that he's a legit 6'10.  Ainge finally picked someone with some true size.  We should all be thankful we aren't stuck with another tweener.

He is, however, 220 pounds and not known for his rebounding. By the way, someone on Y!Sports called him the "ant-Glen Davis". I think he's good value. It's the 25th pick after all, what did you expect?!

Where'd you get that from? All of the reports I've seen of him say he's a good rebounder.

He's a good pick, I think, but as far as I can see, he doesn't change anything much.  It's just good to have another big.

NBADraft.net (I think) had a scouting report saying that he is "not the rebounder he should be with his size". I will probably agree - 8 rpg in college for someone this tall is good, but not extraordinary.

If Johnson signs a max scale contract, his 2012 salary is going to be around $1.2 million, I believe.

The "cap hold" we'd be charged for an empty roster spot heading into free agency is around $490k.

Therefore, in reality we'd be saving a max of around $700,000 if traded Johnson or renounced his rights.  That amount probably isn't going to be enough to make or break our free agent plans.
