I'm not sure how you could hate on what Danny did here. Granted it's possible that Brooks develops into a good NBA scorer and JJ does not amount to much - but think of it this way:
Celtics needed size, rebounding, and some offense off the bench. They were projected to take someone like JJ at 25 anyways - so Danny winds up getting his man that fills his need, while picking up an extra 2nd round pick in the future. It was a Belicheck move.
On its own I like the JJ pick; would have been happy with him at 25. But to get an extra pick on top of that is even better. The Celtics have a lot of picks in the next few drafts. They can easily use these as assets in trades or to rebuild. How do we know the Nets 2014 2nd round pick is gonna be worthless?
Danny gets a B+ from me on this draft; 2 solid, proven, elite college players that fit needs. The only reason he doesnt get an A is that Farid was nearly there for the taking, and I have to believe there was something reasonable Danny could have done to move up to get him. If the Nets only had to give up a 2014 2nd rounder to go from 27 to 25, what would it have cost Danny to go from 25 to 23 (if possible)? I can't imagine much more.
