Am I the only one? This time last year scources were reporting that the C's had eyes for Avery Bradley. Generally Chad Ford has some insight as to what Ainge is up to at this point. (I am convinced that Ainge is one of the un-named GM's Ford gets info from) This year nothing, nadda, zilch, bubkiss. What does anyone think is going on? Seems awfully fishy to me.

I really think we're trading out of the first round - not giving out any guaranteed contracts right now

Something will come out late tonight or tomorrow about the Celtics. My guess is Avery Bradley stays we move up in the draft to get Biambyo

Ainge has to fill out the roster somehow, and he has to do it on the cheap. Rookies at the tail end of the 1st/2nd are probably the most cost-effective way to do that.

I don't know, I think signing a bunch of NBA journeymen to vet min contracts is probably a more cost-effective than drafting someone late in the 1st round (who costs more and will likely contribute less).

2nd rounders are a different story as you can sometimes find players ready to contribute bc they are college seniors and bc they can be signed for cheap.
Celtics fan for life.

NBA journeymen typically don't have the same potential as a late round pick though.

Rondo was a late round pick, you only get those hits a small percentage of the time but you absolutely have to keep swinging for them.

The complete silence on the Perkins trade is what bothers me. I feel something is going to happen. It is like those westerns when one guys says: "It's quiet, too quiet..." then gets hit with an arrow and dies.

I just find the whole thing strange. Ainge has not said much except that the draft stinks. There has been not a drop of how any players did on their workouts. It just seems that the Celtics are up to something. We have barely any players under contract, we are capped out and we have some nice expiring contracts. It seems a perfect time for Trader Danny to strike.

Guys picked in the mid-20s get basically two guaranteed years at a total of about $2.5M.  Guys picked around #20, maybe it's closer to $1.5M/year.  Taj Gibson (#25 two seasons ago) makes about $1.2M per.  The money is almost identical to what you would pay a veteran on a minimum contract (although a portion of the vet deals are subsidized by the league, IIRC).  Still, it's close enough where the dollars shouldn't matter.

In some ways, it's better, though.  You control the player even beyond the two guaranteed years, through the team options and the restricted free agency process.

I am now hearing that the Bulls are putting their two picks up for sale. There are rumours coming from every team around the league but the C's.

Cavs want to buy a late 20's pick in exchange for their 2 second rounders and cash

I don't think we're a good fit for that package unless Danny has his eyes on someone he knows he can get later than where they are picking

Oh, that sounds so mature--and disappointing.

But yeah, we've got tiny hints of opportunities with Howard and Smith and with Pierce's extended contract I'm not seeing how we fit it all in!

i'm doubting we stay in this draft too. I think a trade is coming. Hopefully it's not just trading the pick for cash, ala Phoenix Suns.
