he could theoretically hurt us if he ended up with the heat or bulls. I am not saying it is very likely so this is kind of all moot discussion, but if you could get him for the minimum it really is a low risk proposition. We could sign anyone from McGrady, Carter, Iverson etc for the league minimum and if it did not work out we cut them. Under the current cba there is no limit to filling out your roster with minimum guys. So if our front office is paying the minimum bill why do people care if roll the dice?

We took on Cassell, Marbury, Nate and Shaq. All guys that had issues as teammates, being a me first player etc.. none of them destroyed the team and some of them helped.

I'll take him. He's about as good as Lebron, but doesn't say as many stupid things

Outside of scoring (by volume and efficiency), rebounding, passing and defending, sure.

I've got no interest in Vince Carter.  He just never struck me as a guy who was willing to sacrifice in order to help his teams win, and I don't have much interest in watching him during the decline years of his career.

I actually think this is a poor move by the Suns.

Not that they should keep Carter. But his contract isn't fully guaranteed next year (only $4 mil owed if released before June 30). As such, he'd be a decent trade chip on draft night. The Suns could shop that contract to gain a decent pick or prospects from another team looking to shed payroll.

Instead, the Suns (Robert Sarver) are happy to buy out Carter to save money. They won't get under the cap by doing this, so it won't help improve the team at all.

I agree that it doesn't make a ton of sense to do this until the deadline, but my guess is that the Suns have at least done some diligence, and haven't been impressed by the offers they're getting.

Sounds like it, Roy. Per Wojo:

The Suns have been willing to take back a so-so contract for Vince Carter(notes), if it included a first-round pick in the 2012 draft, league sources said. This hasn’t happened, and as the Arizona Republic’s Paul Coro reported, the Suns will buy out the final $18 million season on Carter’s contract for $4 million.

The worst possible thing you can add to an already struggling ballclub is a self-appointed star in decline who thinks he's still "The Man."

That is precisely how I view Vince Carter.

Two words: Not interested.

Get younger, not older and with more questionable characters.
