With all this hate for Carter and AI, I don't quite get it.  There seems to be this mentality that having a fairly one-dimensional scorer off the bench is some sort of big no-no, but you need look no further than Jamal Crawford in Atlanta, J.R. Smith in Denver, and especially Jason Terry in Dallas to see that it can work. 

Now these guys are older, so I wouldn't give them the same attention (and money) as these guys, but I don't see why anyone would be against giving either guy a go as our bench scorer at the league minimum.

The difference is, Crawford, Smith, and Terry have made careers of being energy guys off the bench.

AI and Carter have made careers of being volume scorers who always have the ball in their hands.

More importantly though, AI has shown in the past that he is not willing to accept that role, so it is a leap to suggest he would take it now. 

Carter is different though.  The biggest problem with him is that he has been soft for most of his career, and has never been seen as a guy who plays all that hard from play to play.  Since, you are looking for energy as much as scoring from that spot, I am not sure he is the best fit.

Jon, Terry, Smith, and Crawford didn't openly tank to force a trade.

Iverson and Tank Carter both did.  Iverson several times. 

Thus the hate. 

Nobody wants Iverson at all.  The tankster could land somewhere.  But it won't be Boston.

Those players are in their primes.  Vince Carter looked awful last season.  Awful

I'm not high on Carter as well.
But I think that after all the hate and slamming he's been getting since playing in Orlando, he's got something to prove. And pride may be enough to motivate him.
He's seen Marion thrive in Dallas's system - Maybe he's willing to put in the effort on the Celtics bench? (Or maybe he could become the new Rasheed...)

I'd take him at the LLE. First of all him signing with us would show that he is willing to put aside his selfishness for a shot at the title. Second of all he would be much better than any player we could get at that price.

No, it would show that no one else was desperate enough to give him anything more than the veteran minimum so he went someplace where he could do next to nothing and still have a good shot at a title.

Guys who were selfish, self-serving people and basketball players don't suddenly change their ways. It might have happened once or twice in the whole history of the league. It won't happen with Vince.

This is the same guy that quit on his team in game 5 in 2001 against Philly in the Eastern Conference semi-finals and then decided to attend his college graduation the day of game 7, flew into town and put up a 6 for 18 performance missing the game winning shot at the buzzer.

In the same playoff series he quit on his team in one game and then decided it more important to get his degree at graduation, even though he was already a multi-millionaire rather than conserving himself and being at shoot around and with his team mates before a game 7.

I don't see this tiger changing his stripes any time soon.

I didn't see going to get his degree as quitting on his team then, and I don't now. Lots of players have put aside there personal stats for a shot at a title late in their careers, not just a few. Shaq, Karl Malone, Gary Payton, Antoine Walker, Shawn Marion to name a few. The Celtics have a recent history of getting guys known for me first play to try hard and play defense (Nate, Marbury). Getting Vince at the LLE would be a discount, there is no way he doesn't get a better offer than that.

If a vet SG is the target, Michael Redd is probably a better choice money and maybe talent wise. Even with the injury history.

Redd is another Chicago bound to start and earn his last "big" contract. But I'd love to see him in green. To me, he's a shadow of Ray Allen b/c he's been on sorry teams but is an excellent shooter from everywhere on the floor, and an ok defender. He could repeat Ray's results and be the scorer off the bench when Green wants to play 2nd fiddle

The LLE is exactly what I was thinking... And I do not believe a multi year deal at that money would effect the C's max player cap space for 2012. So it could work for both parties.
