I just stumbled on this on realgm and thought I would share it, I wonder where he will end up.Surely with a contender, hopefully not Miami, I would want Boston to take him even if he is old all the last thing we want them to have is  experienced fire power in that locker room and  on court. You can say he is washed up and not clutch but he is still Vince and still has those break out games and we do not need Miami having him as a sixth man off the bench adding confidence to the confidence they already have!!!!

Chicago would be an ideal destination for Vince. Where he can play for a contender and at the same time Start. But if he does want to join the Celtics, SIGN HIM QUICKLY. It's an easy YES.

I'll take him. He's about as good as Lebron, but doesn't say as many stupid things

  • Rondo = Good
He'd sign with Bulls, Heat, Lakers, even the Mavs before signing with the Celtics.  Honestly, we don't need Carter all that much.  Green should get most of the extra wing minutes next year, and Delonte / Avery should pick up the rest.  We need scoring and rebounding in the front court.

True that he'd more likely sign with Chicago to start, but he could be great here. Keep West playing PG, Bradley fighting for minutes and health assurance for Delonte, and Carter plays behing Ray.
With Carter, we could keep our starting 5, and Carter and Green can come in and light up the offense with West,BBD, and a pickup like Fesenko,Dalembert or Haywood.
Can't stop, Rondo!

Plus Carter could start if we wanted to try and let Ray be the offense in the 2nd unit, that way we can get 4-6 easy points from alleyoops from Rondo
Can't stop, Rondo!

When a player is bought out, are they free to negotiate the monetary terms for the year their salary is bought out?  Or are they forced to accept the minimum for that year?

So for example VC is owed $18.9m next year; let's say he agrees to a buyout at $14m.  Can he turn around and sign for $5m year and end up exceeding his origial compensation?

I would expect VC to want to join a top contender, but would not be surprised to see him return to ORL.

No thanks.  He didn't seem to make teams better even in his prime.  Now he's washed up.  Plus he drives me nuts because he's so soft.

I actually think this is a poor move by the Suns.

Not that they should keep Carter. But his contract isn't fully guaranteed next year (only $4 mil owed if released before June 30). As such, he'd be a decent trade chip on draft night. The Suns could shop that contract to gain a decent pick or prospects from another team looking to shed payroll.

Instead, the Suns (Robert Sarver) are happy to buy out Carter to save money. They won't get under the cap by doing this, so it won't help improve the team at all.

Hi, I'm a Celtics fan from Israel.
I just read that Carter is about to be bought out by the Suns.
Although I don't think he's an impact player as he's tagged to be, maybe he could add experience from the bench at the SG, behind Ray.
If he'll sign for a minimal contract, it could be a nice addition.
Thoughts?

Hopefully more teams will have the discipline to take steps to save money. The main reason for the threat of a lockout is that teams keep getting into arms races to "improve" their team in a zero-sum game.

Sometimes the smartest thing a team can do is to give up on winning when it is rebuilding time. Only so many teams can try to be winners and get a return on their investment.

Back to the topic: I think Carter would be a nice addition. But the problem is, he still wants big miutes which we can't provide.

As someone else said, He didn't make teams better in his prime and he is well past that.  He didn't defend in his prime either.

This team needs to get YOUNGER, not OLDER.  We brought in washed up veterans last season and it didn't work out very well so I believe it is time to try something different.
